Womanhood is wrought with contradictions: object and caregiver, victim and survivor.

WomanEwer, a female-led multidisciplinary project, connects women through the arts, supporting survivors of sexual abuse. Only for women, this is a safe space to explore movement, sound, and conversation, all around the complexities of womanhood.

Together with UK-based artists Laura Kenyon (France) and Sara Maurizi (Italy), participants will recreate the latest performance J’ai Un Bleu // I Have A Bruise: a one hour piece based on real experiences of the dancers performing it. This nine day residency for trained dancers culminates in a group performance at BIC.

Residency Timings:

10:00 AM -12:00 PM: Training
12:00 AM – 1:00 PM: Repertoire
1:00 PM – 2:30 PM: Lunch Break

2:30 PM – 5:00 PM: Creative Lab

Training:

Every morning, the residency will start with contemporary dance training. Laura leads through breath work, guided improvisation, crossings, floor work and handstand training. Students are encouraged to open up creatively from different parts of the body, using energy to connect and share the space with others.

Technique:

After a break for lunch, every afternoon will be dedicated to research, creation and group conversation. Over the past four years, Laura has developed a tool box of guided improvisations, company repertoire and creative tasks using art work, images, vocal as well as visual scores, poems and other creative writings. Drawing from the process of creating J’ai Un Bleu, participants are encouraged to share their own experiences and express themselves with freedom.

This nine day residency has limited capacity and will culminate in a performance at the BIC Auditorium. Please register your interest only if you are committed to the entire residency and performance. Participants will be selected based on responses to the RSVP form, and will receive an email confirming a spot.

The last date for application to the Residency is Sun, Jun 7 at 7pm.
