This hands-on workshop introduces the Lambadi tradition of mirror embroidery, an art that transforms fabric into a shimmering record of beauty, heritage, and pride. Participants will learn to attach mirrors to cloth using traditional stitches and motifs, guided directly by artisans of the Porgai Artisans Association from Sittilingi Valley, Tamil Nadu.
Traditionally practiced by Lambadi women to mark textiles with identity and status, this embroidery has been preserved across generations. The workshop is open to complete beginners and welcomes anyone curious about craft, culture, or new ways to personalize a garment. All materials are provided, and those who wish to embellish a piece of their own are welcome to bring it along.

Lalitha & Lambadi Artisans
Dr. Lalitha is the co-founder of Porgai Artisans Association, a collective of Lambadi women artisans who handcraft intricate embroidery rooted in tribal tradition. “Porgai” means pride in the Lambadi dialect, and the organisation lives up to its name, empowering over sixty women with dignified livelihoods, fair wages and cultural recognition. The Lambadi artisans joining the workshop are storytellers, teachers and changemakers who have helped reduce migration and preserve heritage in their community.
