The history of the 18th Century was a time of change and this helped shape the contours of the present. The Marathas were present in every province of India at the time and one can scarcely understand this period of history, with the collapse of the incumbent Mughals and the stealthy increase of British influence without a deep dive into the subject.
The Marathas were also the first empire of an indigenous nature after long periods of Turkic Persian or Afghan rule, and the last indigenous empire before the British took over. The speaker makes the case that much of how India has shaped up today is due to these events 250 years ago.

Dr. Uday S. Kulkarni has written six historical nonfiction books:

6. The Maratha Century : Vignettes and Anecdotes of the Maratha Empire (2021)

His next book due for release in July 2022 is titled ‘The Mastery of Hindustan : Triumphs & Travails of Madhav Rao Peshwa’.

Dr Kulkarni has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland.

An alumnus of the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune and a surgeon by profession, Kulkarni served in the Indian Navy retiring in the rank of Surgeon Commander.
