The Many Lives of Dance
World Dance Day 2026
A movement practice is inherently living, breathing, and evolving.
Dance is many things at once. A rigorous system of knowledge, shaped by centuries of technique, philosophy, and discipline. A language moving through communities, carried by rhythm, presence, and collective energy. A deeply personal practice, uniquely created by each mind, body and soul.
The Many Lives of Dance is an eight day long series in honour of World Dance Day, bringing together artists, scholars, and practitioners across forms, traditions, and contexts. From ancient rhythms to modern beats, the codified to the improvised, the performed to the participatory.
