The Agra Gharana is one of the richest and most prominent schools of North Indian Classical music. Known for a treasure trove of traditional compositions Agra Gharana musicians have a unique aesthetic lineage. Known for their innate felicity for including intricate, complex rhythmic patterns or layakari, the Agra Gharana musicians are also known for their methodical raga expositions.
The Agra Gharana has been at the forefront of the evolution and growth of Hindustani music and has had great musicians and stalwarts like Ustad Faiyaz Khan, Ustad Vilayat Hussain Khan, and Ustad Latafat Hussain Khan among many others.
Ustad Waseem Ahmed Khan is a torchbearer of this musical lineage, and has studied under his grandfather Ustad Ata Hussain Khan and his father Ustad Naseem Ahmed Khan. He is a gharanedaar (imbued in the distinctive characteristics and traditional strengths of his lineage through direct family links) musician who is widely regarded as a modern great and contemporary voice of the Agra Gharana. His music is intense, passionate and steeped in the electrifying aesthetic power of the full gamut of approaches and textures including the exquisite nom tom in the opening alaap.
He will present some rich compositions and selection of raga from his family’s inheritance. He will be accompanied by Gurumurthy Vaidya on Tabla and Bharat Hegde on Harmonium.

Waseem Ahmed Khan
Ustad Waseem Ahmed Khan is regarded as the torchbearer of one of the oldest Gharanas of music in India, the – ‘AGRA GHARANA’. He’s the 17th generation in the family of the Agra Gharana where artists like Ustad Faiyaz Khan Sahab, Ustad Latafat Khan Sahab, Ustad Sharafat Khan Sahab, Ustad Vilayat Husain Khan sahab and many more jewels of the Agra Gharana were born and brought fame to their Gharana.
He started his taalim at the tender age of 6 under his Legendary Grand father Late Ustad Ata Hussin Khan sahab, there after he took taalim from his father Ustad Naseem Ahmed Khan and Ustad Shafi Ahmed Khan as a Scholar in ITC Sangeet Research Academy Waseem has been performing all over the globe today among them Darbar Festival in London, Doverlane Music Conference, Saptak Festival, Sawai Gandhary Festival are to name few. He has extensively toured USA, Canada, France, Germany, UK and has been awarded PATLIPUTRA KALA SAMBARDHAK SAMMAN in 2017.
Khan was also invited by The Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi for the documentation of the ‘Afternoon Ragas in the programme Dopahn Recently he has been awarded RISING SUN OF MUSIC award from Kerala Government. Last year he got the TEACHER EXCELLENCE AWARD from SHE Foundation with association of Sikhsayatan Foundation for his Teaching abilities and his contribution in Hindustani Classical Music. He was also a Guru of ITC SANGEET RESEARCH ACADEMY and has taught students for the last 10 years.
Gurumurthy Vaidya
Gurumurthy Vaidya, fondly called “Tabla Guru” is one of the leading musicians in the world of rhythm. He belongs to the rich traditions of Ustad Ahmed Jan Tirakhwa Saheb. Born into a musically inclined family, Gurumurthy hails from the culturally rich belt in the Western Ghats of Karnataka called Yallapura. At a tender age, Gurumurthy showed a keen interest in music. Gurumurthy remembers his childhood of trying to understand the complex rhythmic patterns of Yakshagana. He started his initial lessons in Classical Tabla from Pandit G G Hegde, Yallapura, and later went on to get additional training from the well-known Pandit Basavaraj Bendigere of Dharwad. Later became a disciple of legendary master Pandit Ravindra Yavagal and continues to take guidance from the master.
Bharat Hegde
Bharat Hegde received his early training in harmonium playing from Vidwan Shambu Bhat and Vidwan Shri Prakash Hegde in both accompaniment and solo techniques. His later training has been under Pt. Vasanth Kankapur and now he is learning under Pt. Sudheer Nayak from Mumbai. He has travelled widely in India accompanying classical as well as light classical vocalists. He has accompanied the likes of Pt Venkatesh Kumar, Pt Ganapathi Bhat, Pt Jayateerth Mevundi, Vidushi Sangeeta Katti, Vidushi Lalith J Rao, Vidush Purnima Bhat Kulkarni and received their blessings. He has given many solo concerts and won the hearts of many classical music lovers.
