On a day like any other in the burgeoning metropolis of Bangalore, a photographer discovers a mysterious object hidden within the city’s innards: a monolith colloquially called ‘Building No. 37’. Once a beloved urban icon and the tallest structure in South India, it teeters now on the edge of absolute oblivion. The shops inside its complex are empty, the walls continue to decay and ghosts of yore roam its corridors of once-was. Slowly, the building begins to relay its lament to the photographer – he records these tales in a quiet desperation, aware that these may soon evaporate and disappear. Meanwhile, the bureaucratic regime begins to close in on him, determined to ensure the outsider never learns of the city’s various, sinister secrets.

This project was made possible with support from India Foundation for the Arts, under the Project 560 programme
