The experience of theatre is dynamic; plays are meant to be read and heard as much as they are performed and imbibed.

Come, participate in the BIC Library’s dramatised reading of the 1976 play, Party by Mahesh Elkunchwar, translated by Ashish Rajadhyaksha.

Elkunchwar’s political satire, Party, is set at the home of wealthy art-patron, Damyanti Rane. Reminiscent of Checkhovian social commentary, Elkunchwar paints a portrait of a dinner party for the creative elite. Rane’s guests, playwrights, actresses, communists and doctors, exchange conversations, pretensions, aspirations, resignations and deliciously petty rivalry. A heavy cloud of guilt hangs over their collective conscience, as it is revealed that missing guest, writer-poet Amrit, opted to fight for the ‘marginalised tribals’ instead.

Experience the night unravel and burn with a political fever that will leave you to both, introspection and a hearty laugh.

This session will be structured as a cold and dramatic, group reading carried by participants and facilitated by the BIC team. All are welcome!

Please note: This is an interactive participatory event designed for a small group of 30 people. Please RSVP only if you can make it to the event.
