Running in Thin Air
The Amazing Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon
Speakers
Two of India’s most experienced amateur runners share their journey of completing the historic Mount Everest marathon this May. This historic marathon is held on 29th May every year to commemorate the day Tenzing and Hillary scaled Mount Everest. One of the demands of this great event is the tough journey to the start line – runners trek up for over 10 days to reach Everest base camp which is where the run starts. It was even tougher when one of the runners due to a stomach bug had to run on ’empty’
Reaching the start line is a huge challenge – run is at the end of a multi day trek up from Lukla to Everest Base camp. The high altitude comes with rarefied air. The weather conditions fluctuate. And finally the tough trail had lots of boulders, snow, ice, steep ascents and challenging uneven descents over rocks and loose stones
