Navigating End-of-life Care
Roop Gursahani, Consultant Neurologist, P.D. Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai and Member, Steering Committee, ELiCIT (End of Life Care in India Taskforce) will speak about taking charge of your own medical care in the later years, through advance care planning. He will then engage in a conversation with Nagesh Simha, palliative care physician and Co-founder of Karunashraya.
Both session will be moderated by Nidhi Chawla and Reshmi Chakraborty, Co-founders of Silver Talkies, a social enterprise focused on making active ageing a desirable and viable goal for older adults and Co-authors of Rethink Ageing – Lessons in Ageing from the Older and Bolder Generation, published by Penguin India.

Speakers
Tara Kini
Tara Kini is an independent consultant in Education and Music and works with several reputed institutions in Bangalore, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi and Ahmedabad. Tara has been a teacher and administrator at Mallya Aditi International School for twenty years. She partnered in setting up the Centre for Education, Research and Training in the Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology.
Tara has trained intensively in Hindustani classical music. She is currently learning Khayal from Smt Lalith J Rao, and Dhrupad from Padmashree Gundecha Brothers. Tara is the founder director of a music collective called Sunaad that has presented over one hundred shows that demystify classical music. She is also an Advisor to the Shankar Mahadevan Academy of Music.
Shiv Kumar
Shiv Kumar is a Senior Advocate with over 50 years of active practice at the Karnataka High Court. He established the Elders Helpline over 18 years ago at the Police Commissioners’ Office to render pro bono legal services to the have-nots of society. Being a Certified Mediator, both in Family Law and Commercial Law, he established an alternate dispute resolution mechanism, namely Mediation at the Helpline which successfully resolved disputes without reference to a Court of Law. Apart from being a certified Mediator he is also a designated Master Trainer at the Bangalore Mediation Centre which is an initiative of the High Court of Karnataka. He authored a draft legislation exclusively for Elders that was presented for public discussion and the existing Law has drawn substantially from such legislation. He has also been a part of the Committee that has recommended amendments to the existing Maintenance Act. Aside from his professional pursuits he is a Theatre artist and has acted and directed several plays in English. He has acted in Hindi and Kannada TV serials.
Pankaj Rai
Pankaj Rai, the Aditya Birla Group’s Chief Data Analytics Officer, has a professional experience of 30 years in strategy, consulting, and financial services. Pankaj was formerly a Senior Vice President at Wells Fargo, Head of Analytics at Dell and Head of PMO at Standard Chartered Bank. He has a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT Delhi and an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad. In his free time, he enjoys long-distance running, cycling, badminton and meeting people at his favourite cafe in Bangalore’s Koramangala.
Roop Gursahani
Dr Roop Gursahani, Consultant Neurologist, P.D.Hinduja Hospital, Mahim & Khar, Mumbai. Board of Directors, International Neuropalliative Care Society; Trustee, Forum for Indian Neurology Education Member, Steering Committee, ELiCIT (End of Life Care in India Taskforce) a joint initiative of the IAN, ISCCM & IAPC. His area of interests are Epilepsy and Neuropalliative care
Nagesh Simha
Dr Nagesh Simha is a palliative care physician. He is one of the founders of Karunashraya, a 73-bedded hospice for the care of advanced and terminally ill cancer patients. He is a Past President of Rotary Bangalore Indiranagar. His area of interest is spirituality in palliative care.
Nidhi Chawla
Nidhi Chawla is the Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of Silver Talkies. She has several years of experience in the financial services sector and has received leadership awards for her work in the eldercare space. She is a member of the CII Seniorcare Committee. Rethink Ageing is her first book.
Reshmi Chakraborty
Reshmi Chakraborty is the co-founder and chief editor of Silver Talkies. She has worked as a journalist for over two decades and continues to write for various publications. Rethink Ageing is her first book.
