A culture reveals much of itself through the toys it gives its children. As the French Essayist Roland Barthes explained his work Mythologies. ‘All the toys one commonly sees are essentially a microcosm of the adult world.’

Blocks are among the most important toys of an inventive nature available to children. They allow children to create and structure a world that is their own. According to Roland Barthes, blocks do not present a ready made world to the child. Blocks and Block Building pose many interesting questions for researchers. For Example, as a young child Albert Einstein was fascinated with building blocks. Was his interest in BLOCK PLAY an important factor in his development as a mature thinker? Einstein himself touched upon this question when he explained that he was able to formulate the Theory of Relativity largely because he kept asking himself questions of time and space that only children ask.
