The conversation will focus on the recent political developments in Pakistan. The conversation will throw light on the circumstances under which Imran Khan was ousted as Pakistan’s Prime Minister, and how Shehbaz Sharif became its new prime minister. The discussion will also seek to understand the implications of these developments for Pakistan, India, and the region at large. The conversation will be followed by a Q&A session.

Ayesha Sidiqa

Author & Political Scientist

Dr. Ayesha Siddiqa is an author and political scientist currently working as senior fellow, department of War Studies, KIng’s College, London from where she obtained her Ph.D as well. Earlier she was a research associate at the Center for International Studies and Diplomacy at SOAS. Dr. Siddiqa was also a fellow at St Antony’s college, Oxford, Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, and a Ford Fellow. She has taught at University of Pennsylvania and Johns Hopkins University and has written two books: (a) on Pakistan’s military decision-making and arms procurement, and (b) on its political economy. She was also a civil servant and served as Director Naval Research at the Naval Headquarters.

Happymon Jacob

Associate Professor, JNU

Dr Happymon Jacob is an Associate Professor of Diplomacy and Disarmament at the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). He is the founder of the New Delhi based think tank ‘Council for Strategic and Defence Research’. Prior to joining JNU in 2008, he held teaching positions at the University of Jammu in J&K and Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi; and research positions at the Centre for Air Power Studies, Delhi Policy Group, and Observer Research Foundation.  He is the author of Line on Fire: Ceasefire Violations and India-Pakistan Escalation Dynamics (Oxford University Press, 2019), and Line of Control: Traveling with the Indian and Pakistani Armies (Penguin Viking 2018). His concurrent engagements with the Indian media include a column with The Hindu and hosting of a weekly video show on national security on The Wire.In.
