Queer Poets Collective was formed to celebrate & discuss poetry written by Queer individuals in Bangalore, to document queer voices and experiences. Conceptualised by Rumi Harish, Bangalore based queer activist, poet, musician and writer and Dadapeer Jyman, young queer poet, who recently won two the Sahitya Academy Award, at the national level and Toto funds the arts in creative writing in Kannada. The intent is to encourage young poets to learn and contribute to queer history by memories, experiences and imagination.

This month’s poet in focus is Charu Priyan.

Poets are encouraged to read poems at the gathering.

Charu Priyan

Poet & Writer

Charu Priyan is a Tamil poet and script writer. He currently works as a taxi driver. He uses humour and satire in his work to has excellent sense of humour and can create his own situations into sarcastically questioning the society. Many times in his scripts he is fierce in his dialogues which scathingly critiques social morality, gender injustice and discrimination in the name of caste and class.

Dr. Malarvili K is Professor with the department of languages, Kannada in Presidency University. She has more than 32 years of experience in teaching and research.
She has been awarded Doctorate in Comparative Studies (Topic: A Comparative Study of Short Stories on Masti Venkatesha Ayyangar; Pudumaipittan in Dravidian University) prior to that she has completed her Masters in MA., with specialization in Dravidian Linguistics, Poetics in Bangalore University. She is also a translator from Tamil to Kannada and vice versa.
She has delivered seminars in World/International/National/state levels. She has Conducted several workshops, Certificate Course on Translation, also have been invited as a resource person by premier nstitutions. And Universities, Central Institute of Classical Tamil with appearances as a subject matter expert on Doordarshan, F. M Radio, Kannada web T.V. Sirinaadu, Germany web Radio (Tamilaruvi)and Book Brahma – Mukhaa Mukhi , Times of India and written for several popular Kannada newspapers.
She has published 14 books of translation and has authored one which is under publication.
