Pakistan’s military establishment continues to wield substantial influence as the foremost pivotal entity within the nation. In a presentation, Dr. Ayesha Siddiqa will delve deeply into its multifaceted interactions, examining the intricate dynamics shared with domestic political and societal stakeholders.

This will be followed by a conversation with Aunohita Mojumdar, that will examine Pakistan’s engagement with external partners such as the United States and China, its relationship with India, and what lies ahead. A Q&A with the audience will follow.

Ayesha Siddiqa

Senior Research Fellow, King's College, London

Ayesha Siddiqa is a Senior Research Fellow at King’s College, London. Dr. Siddiqa was formerly with the SOAS South Asia Institute. She has a Ph.D. in War Studies from King’s College London and is the author of 2 books including internationally acclaimed ‘Military Inc’. She has also authored 12 book chapters and published over 300 articles in leading national & international outlets including The New York Times and Al-Jazeera. She is the only woman and civilian to work with the Pakistan Navy as Director of Naval Research. She has worked as an Advisor to the Chairman of National Accountability Bureau (NAB). She has been associated with the Department of the Auditor General of Pakistan for 10 years as part of Pakistan’s prestigious Civil Service.

Aunohita Mojumdar

Journalist

Aunohita Mojumdar is an Indian journalist who has been a reporter and editor for over 30 years. She has lived and worked in Afghanistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and India. She has published in numerous regional and international media outlets including Guardian, Financial Times, BBC, Asia Times, Al Jazeera(English), NRC Handelsblad (Netherlands), Sydsvenskan(Sweden) Outlook magazine(India), Outlook Traveller, the Hindu newspaper, Hindustan Times, Women’s enews, Times of India, Eurasianet, Khaleej Times, Hard News, Civil Society, Panos and the Christian Science Monitor. She was the Editor of the South Asian magazine Himal Southasian.
