Author, Publisher, Advisor on cultural initiatives. In a career spanning five decades, Malvika Singh has worn many hats, espousing unexpected causes, going in search of the unexplored. In this riveting visual presentation, Singh takes us on a personal journey with gold. Connecting the ancient and the contemporary, the old and the new, fibre and sculpture, she weaves a web of private memories which offer an insight into the many meanings and uses of the precious metal across time, civilisations, creative media and human interactions.

Presented by The Art of Gold– Art of Gold is a series of lectures, symposia and events initiated by Swati & Sunaina Gold, to generate dialogues on the various artistic forms of gold.

Malvika Singh

Author & Publisher

Malvika Singh is a Delhi-based author and publisher, with an involvement over five decades in the fields of theatre, design, culture and conservation, film and television, and craft. She is the Publisher of Seminar magazine, and Founder Member of REHWA Society. In the past, Singh has been a member of the Board of the National Culture Fund, Board of Trustees of India Brand Equity Foundation, the Governing Council of the National Institute of Design, and the Governing Council and Managing Committee of INTACH, of which she has also been the Vice-Chairman. In her capacity as Advisor on Culture to the Chief Minister of Rajasthan between 2013-18, she led the revitalisation of seminal cultural institutions in the state, as well as the establishment of ground-breaking new creative spaces and networks. She was decorated as a Dame in the civil merit honours list of the King of Spain in 2009.

As one of India’s leading journalists and columnists, Singh has been Associate Publisher of the Business India Group, Editor of The India Magazine and Publisher of Inside Outside magazine. She conceptualised and set-up TVI, India’s first live private news channel and was Presenter of its weekly interview show At Home. She is the author of Perpetual City: A Short Biography of Delhi (Aleph, 2013), Bhutan: Through the Lens of the King (Lustre Press, Roli Books, 2012), New Delhi: Making of a Capital (Roli Books, 2009), Delhi: India in One City (Academic Foundation, 2008) and Snowdon’s India. She is the editor of The First City, Chennai: A City of Change, Hyderabad: A City of Hope, Kolkata: A Soul City, Lucknow: A City Between Cultures, Mumbai: A City of Dreams (Academic Foundation, 2011) and Freeing the Spirit: Iconic Women of India (Penguin, 2007). A graduate in Theatre Direction from the National School of Drama and Asian Theatre Institute in New Delhi, Singh spent the early years of her career in theatre and film production.
