What is hidden in the meal, woven into the cloth?

This talk explores the stories behind what we eat and what we wear, tracing how everyday cultural practices carry the marks of migration, trade, technology, politics, identity, and the exchange of ideas across the Indian subcontinent. Through historical anecdotes and conversation, it treats food and clothing not as markers of tradition alone, but as living records of a history that continues to be written today. Drawing from the book The Music of Stones, the session invites the audience to look at the most familiar parts of daily life with fresh curiosity.

This talk is part of “Karwaan Baithak,” Karwaan Heritage’s public lecture and dialogue series.
