Is it a good? Is it a security? Where does an NFT fall in Indian laws? This presentation by Abhinav Shrivastava intends to explore primary laws in India which govern private rights and interests to see if they can be applied to recognise NFTs and transactions involving NFTs. With recognition come legal rights and remedies, but on the flip-side, potential application of regulatory frameworks intended to govern specific forms of transactions. With the NFT space and its use-cases constantly evolving, this presentation will look at the place of NFTs in Indian law and the influence that Indian law could have on the NFT space.

Abhinav Shrivastava is a Partner at LawNK, a Bangalore based boutique law firm specialising in sports, media, technology and intellectual property laws. He heads the Privacy and Data Protection, and Corporate practices at LawNK, and is a part of the Gaming and Technology practice group at the Firm. He is a graduate of Kings’ College London and NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad.
He has assisted clients in the block-chain, NFT and meta-verse space in setting up their platforms, aligning their business models with Indian law, advised on the rights at play and different models of engagement, and drafted supporting documentation.
