At home, in the library, under a tree, curled up on a rainy afternoon or perched on a windowsill… there are as many ways to read as there are readers! Author Rohini Nilekani brings her book I Love to Read to life in a special reading session, with storyteller Priya Muthukumar bringing fun activities inspired by the story.
This session is part of a two-part event on enabling children to read. The second session, In the Language We Think, Dream and Belong, is a panel discussion for adults, on the making of children’s books.

Rohini Nilekani
Rohini Nilekani is an author and philanthropist who has strongly influenced the Indian social sector over three decades. She is Chairperson of Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies and Co-founder and Director of EkStep, a nonprofit education platform; she founded Arghyam, a water and sanitation foundation, and co-founded Pratham Books, a nonprofit children’s publisher. A former journalist, she has written for publications including The Times of India, India Today and Mint. Penguin Books India published her books Stillborn and Uncommon Ground, and she self-published Samaaj, Sarkaar, Bazaar, alongside ninteen children’s books, including the Sringeri Srinivas series.
Priya Muthukumar
Priya Muthukumar is a learner, educator, and performance storyteller, and founder of Storipur, a thirteen-year-old storytelling company in Bengaluru. She tells stories across genres and age groups in settings including parks, libraries, literary festivals, corporate offices, schools, and colleges, often weaving in environmental wisdom, and has written “sustainability stories” for magazines. A translator in children’s literature, she works closely as a Story-Coach with educators using storytelling in learning spaces, and currently serves as Resource Faculty for storytelling as a general elective in schools and colleges in Bangalore.
