Welcome to the world of Chittara, an indigenous folk art practiced in Karnataka’s Malenadu region. Created and refined over generations, Chittara is inspired from nature, architecture, and lifestyle, its exquisite lines laden with meaning and symbolism. Experience the many facets of this living tradition through the lens of the Deevaru community in this three-day exhibition at BIC, featuring Chittara paintings by many artists, photographs by Smitha Tumuluru from the Deevara Chittara book project, displays of various eco-friendly products and installations including creative re-creations of Deevaru lifestyle.
Center for Revival of Indigenous Art (CFRIA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and revival of Chittara, an intricate folk art practiced by the women of the Deevaru community in the Malenadu region of Karnataka. The organisation has spent the last 20 years working closely with artisans from this region to preserve and celebrate this sacred and intricate mural art form.
