A showcase of products developed by melding contemporary design with Kashmir’s traditional hand skills

Through this exhibition CtoK is showcasing work done over the last 24 months in Kashmir – the coming together of NGOs, designers and craft entrepreneurs supported by TITAN to inject a new design dynamic, revive languishing markets and inspire new buyers (traders, retailers, exporters, designers, architects), turning the crafts people’s anguish into a better tomorrow. The KASHMIRIYAT exhibition will demonstrate the partnership between TITAN and CtoK and our joint faith in the vitality and potential of the creative arts, culture and craftspeople of Kashmir. Its roots are in the traditional skills and motifs of Kashmir, but given a new contemporary tweak and functionality – over 400 products developed as part of this project. They showcase the possibilities of exciting contemporary design married to age-old techniques and crafts, ranging from embroideries, pashmina, and namda felting, to walnut wood, papier-mâché, and copper. Product categories include lighting, home furnishings, lifestyle & home décor, bags, board games, and accessories.
As part of the KASHMIRIYAT event there will be a panel discussion on Tues, Nov 26 between 4-5 pm comprising of Ms. LailaTyabji, Chairperson Dastkar and Founder Trustee of CtoK, Ms. Rajeshwari, Head of Taneira, Mr Yasir Ahmed Mir, Craft Development Institute, Srinagar, the artisans, designers and the CtoK team.
Guided walk-around where the designers will share their concepts and experiences will also be organized throughout the three days.

Laila Tyabji
Laila’s work with artisans over the last four decades includes the chikan workers of SEWA Lucknow, Kasuti and Kantha em
Laila speaks and writes regularly on craft, design and social issues at both national and international forums. Her book THREADS & VOICES – Behind the Indian Textile Tradition was published by Marg in 2007. Laila has served as member on National Committees and Advisory Boards for handicrafts, the small industry sector, khadi, culture, design and is actively involved, as a consultant and mentor, in Student Craft Design and Documentation Projects at NIFT and NID.
Harpreet Padam
Harpreet is an accessory design graduate from NIFT, New Delhi. He is a partner at his studio Unlike Design Co.- a designing home accessories, graphic and packaging design for the home, fashion & lifestyle industries. He is also co-founder of accessory brand and online store TOWITHFROM-retailing handmade goods designed by their studio Unlike Design Co. He is 2 times winner of El Decor International Design Awards (EDIDA India).
Rajeshwari Srinivasan
Rajeshwari graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Ethiraj College ,Chennai and has a postgraduate Diploma in Business from Loyola Besant Raj Institute, Chennai and an MBA from Indian Institute of Foreign Trade , New Delhi .She is with the Titan Company Ltd as the Chief Operating Officer of Taneira, based in Bengaluru. At Titan for the last 11 years, she incubated the New Business Development Group and led the creation of SKINN Fragrances and the Company’s first acquisition the Swiss watch brand Favre Leuba. She joined the TATA Group as a TAS officer and has worked in diverse sectors over 25 years within the Group. Prior to TITAN Co , she was with the Indian Hotels as Director of Sales in Kolkata; Taj Khazana in Delhi retailing Luxury lifestyle products; at Tata Global Beverages, Kolkata & Bangalore and at Rallis India, Mumbai in their International Divisions .She worked with an NGO based in Kolkata working in the Crafts sector for 3 years during a sabbatical and continues to be associated with them in an Advisory capacity. She is a Chevening Scholar, awarded by the British Govt. She enjoys the theatre and is involved in the Crafts sector .
Inshada Bashir
Inshada Bashir comes from a family of farmers, and her interest in embroidery started not out of love for crafts, but resentment towards the maltreatment of artisanship. Bashir joined Commitment to Kashmir (CtoK) in an attempt to start a business that would help revive the spirit of Aari embroidery. She did BSE in fisheries, because initially wanted to go down a more traditional career path, but changed her mind when she saw the state of crafts in Kashmir. She joined CDI Srinagar, and did a masters degree in Craft Management & Entrepreneurship.
