ಬಳಸುತ್ತಾ ಬೆಸೆಯುತ್ತಾ ಬೆಳೆಸುತ್ತಾ ಸಾಗುವ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ನದಿಗಳು ವೈಭವದ ಜಲಹರಿವುಗಳು ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲ. ಕೃಷ್ಣೆಯಿಂದ ಕಾವೇರಿವರೆಗೆ ವ್ಯಾಪಿಸಿರುವ ನದಿಗಳು ಸಂಸ್ಖೃತಿಯ, ಕಥೆ-ಪುರಾಣಗಳ, ಪರಿವರ್ತನೆಯ ಚಲನಶೀಲ ವಾಹಕಗಳಾಗಿವೆ. ವೈವಿಧ್ಯಮಯ ಸುಂದರ ಭೂಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳ ನಡುವೆ ಮುನ್ನಡೆವ ಈ ನದಿಗಳು ಜನರನ್ನು, ಪರಂಪರೆಗಳನ್ನು, ಸಮುದಾಯಗಳನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸುತ್ತಾ, ಪರ್ಯಾಯವಾಗಿ ರೂಪುಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾ ಸಾಗಿವೆ.
ಈ ಸ್ವಾಭಾವಿಕ ಹರಿವಿನ ಲಯದಿಂದ ಹೊಮ್ಮಿರುವ ಎರಡು ದಿನಗಳ ಉತ್ಸವವೆ ‘ಕೃಷ್ಣೆಯಿಂದ ಕಾವೇರಿವರೆಗೆ ʼ. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಬದುಕಿನ ನಿರಂತರ ಚಲನೆಯ, ಹೊಂದಾಣಿಕೆಯ, ಪುನಶ್ಚೇತನದ ಶೋಧನೆ. ಈ ಉತ್ಸವವು ಅಭಿಜಾತ ಬೇರುಗಳಿಂದ ವರ್ತಮಾನದ ಮರುವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನಗಳವರೆಗೆ ಹುರುಪಿನ ವಾರಾಂತ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಸಪೀಳಿಗೆಗೆ ಒಳನೋಟಗಳನ್ನು ಒದಗಿಸಲಿದೆ. ತಲ್ಲೀನಗೊಳಿಸುವ ಕಾರ್ಯಾಗಾರಗಳು, ರುಚಿಕರ ಆಹಾರ, ಆಕರ್ಷಕ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು ಈ ಹಬ್ಬದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷಿಸಬಹುದು.

Medha Bhaskar takes us on a reflective journey into the spirit of yoga as practiced, preserved, and passed on as a living continuum within Karnataka. Beginning with a 45-minute experiential practice of asanas drawn from classical traditions, pranayama, and a short meditation, this session aims to embody the pursuit of balance between the worldly and the transcendent, the individual and the universal. A 30 minute discussion will follow, tracing the evolution of yoga in Karnataka across three broad periods: its ancient roots in Shaiva and Jain ascetic lineages, the medieval flowering of practice and philosophy, and the modern renaissance led by teachers and scholars from Mysore, Bangalore, and beyond. Yoga is both a cultural and contemplative inheritance — a practice through which Karnataka’s intellectual, artistic, and spiritual imagination continues to express itself. The session will close with a Q&A session.

Step into the musical world of Karnataka’s rivers, where devotion flows through melody. Chandana Bala Kalyan presents compositions of Saint poets who lived along the Krishna and Kaveri rivers and their tributaries, bringing alive the spiritual voices of centuries past. The evening traces the Abhanga of the Varkaris celebrating Panduranga on the Bhima River, journeys to the Haridasa Sahitya along the Tunga-Bhadra, and celebrates Kodava songs at Talakaveri in Kodagu. It concludes with selections from Mysore composers along the banks of the Kaveri. Accompanied by Satyajit Sanju on harmonium and Adarsh Shenoy on tabla, the performance weaves devotion, rhythm, and story into an immersive experience.

Art-house classics like Chomana Dudi and Hamsageethe brought national acclaim, while innovative film music enriched its aesthetic. Legends like Dr. Rajkumar and rising stars such as Vishnuvardhan defined this golden era. This session celebrates that remarkable journey through iconic scenes, vintage posters, and conversations with industry stalwarts, highlighting how these films not only shaped the industry but continue to inspire audiences across generations.

The Vasu Dixit Collective perform writings of celebrated poets and lyricists set to a fusion of guitars, vocals and synths. Their repertoire includes special renditions of poems by saint poets such as Purandaradasa, Basavanna, and Kabir that reflect the energetic and soulful performance style of front-man Vasu Dixit. A strand from Vasu Dixit’s illustrious journey as a composer, musician, and filmmaker, VDC is a coming together of his many artistic nuances into one space and offers a free-spirited celebration of life. Folktronica or electronic folk is a musical genre that combines elements from folk and electronica, frequently incorporating acoustic instruments, particularly stringed ones and embraces a diverse range of influences that vary based on the artists’ sound choices.

N S Seshadri (1936-2009) was an incredibly gifted artist whose legacy has been preserved through intricately carved soap sculptures. Self-taught, he created with passion and precision in equal measure. His daughter, Chinmai, has curated a selection of the 60-year-old sculptures in display of skill and devotion to craft.

Medha Bhaskar is one of the founders of Amrutha Bindu Yoga, a Bangalore based yoga studio dedicated to classical yoga and its contemporary application. Her work integrates classical yoga philosophy with modern movement science and pedagogy. A teacher and writer, her work weaves philosophy, movement, and contemplative practice, creating immersive spaces for learning that honour yoga’s depth, cultural roots, and evolving relevance in modern life.

Chandana Bala Kalyan is an award-winning Carnatic classical and contemporary singer and TEDx speaker. She performs worldwide as a soloist and with bands, exploring spiritual poetry through genres like Carnatic, Sufi, Baul, Abhanga, Bhajan, and folk. A Top Grade artist in both devotional and Carnatic music, she has received the Ananya Yuva Puraskara, M.S. Subbalakshmi Award, and Nadajyoti Puraskara. Her albums Marma and Taaraa Marma feature 12 compositions, 11 composed by her. Chandana has appeared on MTV Coke Studio, Annamayya Paataku Pattaabhishekham (SVBC), and Ra Ga Ra Sa (ETV).

She writes articles about education, culture, environment and people.

N S Sridhar Murthy | ಎನ್ ಎಸ್ ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಮೂರ್ತಿ
S. Sridhar Murthy, cultural historian, journalist, and scholar, currently teaches at M. P. Birla Institute of Management and coordinates publications at the Kannada Sahitya Parishat. Author of 52 books and over 4,000 articles, he received the first Fellowship from the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy and awards including the R.N.R., Suvarna Karnataka, and Aryabhata. His prolific work continues to illuminate Karnataka’s cinematic and cultural heritage.

Ashwath and Pandit Parameshwar Hegde, she has sung iconic tracks such as “Nee Amruthadhaare” and “Dennana Dennana.” A recipient of the Kannada Rajyotsava Award from HAL (2023), AIR National Award, and Radio Mirchi Award, she leads Suraaghavi Foundation and Suraaghavi Studios, nurturing young musicians.

Mangala Ravi, an acclaimed singer with over 25 years of musical excellence, has performed in 600 concerts worldwide and recorded over 1200 albums in five languages. A disciple of Vid. Raju Anantaswamy, she co-founded Aalapana Kala Samsthe, mentoring hundreds of young singers. Honored with the Kempegowda Award, KIMA Award, and GV Atri Award, her contributions to Sugama Sangeetha and Kannada music remain deeply influential.

Recognized for his rhythmic precision and expressive artistry, Ravi Kiran continues to enrich the state’s musical landscape through dedicated performance and collaboration.

Geetha Bhat is the founder of the Centre for Revival of Indigenous Arts (CFRIA), an accomplished artist, educator, and cultural ambassador. With over 40 years of experience in traditional arts including Origami, Ikebana, and Chittara, she has presented research internationally and exhibited murals widely. She has been involved with Indo-Japanese art and culture since the 1970s, and continues as the Program Director at Indo-Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IJCCI), Karnataka. She was honoured at the Attendance Annual Awards 2024 for her contributions.

Srinivasa G. Kappanna | ಶ್ರೀನಿವಾಸ ಜಿ. ಕಪ್ಪಣ್ಣ
Srinivasa G. Kappanna is a distinguished theatre personality and cultural organizer. Hailing from Bengaluru, his passion for theatre began in 1964 through the National College’s Histrionic Club. In 1972, he became a founding force behind the Nataranga theatre troupe, organizing and directing landmark productions such as Poli Kitty, Kaakana Kote, Tughlaq and Mid-Summer Night’s Dream.
Kappanna has represented India at prestigious international festivals and curated cultural performances for several national events. As an actor, he has appeared in acclaimed films such as Kaadu, Kaanooru Heggadithi, and television series like Malgudi Days and Mukta Mukta and also played a key role in producing the film adaptation of Kaakana Kote. His contributions have earned him numerous honors, including Karnataka Rajyotsava, Karnataka Nataka Academy and Central Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards.
ಶ್ರೀನಿವಾಸ ಜಿ. ಕಪ್ಪಣ್ಣ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನವರಾಗಿದ್ದು ಕನ್ನಡ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಸಂಘಟನೆಯ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಶಕ್ತಿಯಾಗಿ ಗುರುತಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. 1964ರಲ್ಲಿ ನ್ಯಾಷನಲ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಹಿಸ್ಟ್ರಿಯಾನಿಕ್ ಕ್ಲಬ್ ಮೂಲಕ ರಂಗಚಟುವಟಿಕೆ ಆರಂಭಿಸಿದರು. 1972ರಲ್ಲಿ ನಟರಂಗ ನಾಟಕ ತಂಡದ ಸಂಘಟನಾ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಯನ್ನು ಹೊತ್ತು ಪೋಲಿಕಿಟ್ಟಿ, ಕಾಕನ ಕೋಟೆ, ತುಘಲಕ್, ಮಿಡ್ ಸಮರ್ ನೈಟ್ಸ್ ಡ್ರೀಮ್ ಮುಂತಾದ ನಾಟಕಗಳ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪಾತ್ರ ವಹಿಸಿದರು.

Savithakka (Savitha Ganesh Prasad) is a celebrated Kannada folk singer and cultural ambassador who has brought the richness of Karnataka’s folk music to both national and international stages. Initiated into music at a young age under her mother’s guidance, she received formal training in Carnatic classical music from Ratna Shivashankar, Hindustani music from Pandit V. M. Nagaraj and Light Music from M. S. Kamat, Mandolin Srinivas, and Puttur Narasimha Naik.
Savithakka has performed across several prestigious global cities, sharing the vitality of Karnataka’s folk traditions. Through her music institution Savigaana and her ensemble Savithakkana Alli Band, she trains students of all ages. Savithakka made her acting debut with the solo folk drama Udho Udho Yellamma and has been honoured with several awards, including the Kittur Rani Chennamma Award (Government of Karnataka), the Kempegowda Award (BBMP), and the Basava Siri Award, in recognition of her contributions to folk music.
