A Conversation on Heritage Awareness
Speakers
Join Heta Pandit and Roopa Pai in conversation on heritage awareness. The moderator will draw insights from Heta’s experience in pioneering and leading heritage movements in Mumbai and Goa over four decades while juggling between activism and awareness programs through the Goa Heritage Action Group, and being an author of eleven books on Goan History, Art and Culture, while drawing parallels with Roopa’s efforts with heritage awareness in Bangalore through her widely acclaimed walks, talks and books.
The speakers also discuss their recent books, Stories from Goan Houses, and Cubbon Park: The Green Heart of Bengaluru, followed by a Q&A session with the audience.

Heta Pandit
Heta Pandit first “real job” was with famed ethologist Dr Jane Goodall on a chimpanzee research station in Tanzania, East Africa. On her return to India in 1981, Heta volunteered with Bombay Environmental Action Group and initiated several heritage preservation projects through the Indian Heritage Society, Bombay Chapter.
She has written 11 books on Goan heritage – Houses of Goa, Hidden Hands- Master builders of Goa, Dust& Other Short Stories from Goa, Walking in Goa, Walking in Old Goa and Walking with Angels, There’s More to Life Than a House in Goa, Grinding Stories: Songs from Goa, Grinding Stories Retold, and Stories from Goan Houses.
Heta is a Homi Bhabha Fellow and a founder member the Goa Heritage Action Group. She is currently working on a book titled Objects and Memories from Goa. She lives in Saligão, Goa with her dogs Goru and Potyo, and a cat named Ginger.

Roopa Pai
Roopa Pai is one of India’s best-known writers for children. This Bangalore-based author has written over 25 books, ranging from picture books to chapter books and fiction to non-fiction, on themes as varied as sci-fi fantasy, popular science, maths, history, economics, Indian philosophy, life skills, and medicine. Her 8-part fiction series, Taranauts, is India’s first fantasy-adventure series for children in English.
She has also translated 100 poems of the celebrated Kannada poet, Padma Shri K S Nisar Ahmed, into English, and will be publishing them
soon. Her book Cubbon Park: The Green Heart of Bengaluru, the first history of the 152-year-old heritage park in Bangalore, has just been released. When she is not writing, Roopa leads groups of children and young people on history and heritage walks across her beloved Bangalore and Karnataka, as part of her job as director of a company she co-founded, BangaloreWalks.

Harihara S S currently works as a Communications and Outreach consultant and has a keen interest in the evolution and correlation of culture and community. He has previously worked as an Arts Manager, Social Entrepreneur and Community Builder.
