Through photography, quotes from mythology and interviews with participants in Jallikattu, Ryan Lobo explores the power of myth in rural Tamil society, endeavoring with his work, a journey into a civilization trying to hold onto what is true while surviving in the globalized present.

Ryan Lobo

Ryan Lobo is an award-winning photographer and filmmaker based in Bangalore. His work has appeared in National Geographic, The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, The Boston Review, The Caravan, and Bedouin Magazine.

Theodore Baskaran

Theodore Baskaran is a former trustee of WWF India, till 2014. Was honorary wildlife warden in Chennai. His book The Dance of the Sarus: Essays of a Wandering Naturalist (OUP) was published in 1999. He edited The Sprint of the Blackbuck (Penguin.) His book The Eye of the Serpent: An Introduction to Tamil Cinema (East West, 1996) won the Golden Lotus award from the President of India. His latest work is The Book of Indian Dogs (Aleph).
