Author Tracy Chevalier, Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, will be in conversation with Anil Dharker, founder-director of the Mumbai International Literary Festival, about her international bestseller Girl with a Pearl Earring. Translated into 43 languages and over 5 million copies sold worldwide, this historical novel has been made into a film, and will soon be performed as an opera.

Tracy Chevalier FRSL is the author of ten novels. She is best known for the international bestseller Girl with a Pearl Earring, which has been translated into 43 languages, sold over 5 million copies worldwide, been made into a film, and will soon be performed as an opera. Her most recent novel is A Single Thread, about the embroidered cushions and kneelers made during the 1930s for Winchester Cathedral. She grew up in Washington DC and in 1984 moved to London, where she lives with her husband and son.
Anil Dharker is the Founder and Director of the Mumbai International Literary Festival, now in its Tenth year.
He has been Editor of India`s oldest magazine, The Illustrated Weekly of India, as well as of newspapers like The Independent and Mid-day.
Over the years, he has been a columnist for The Times of India, The Hindu, The Economic Times, Gulf News, Khaleej Times, Asian Age, Financial Chronicle and other publications. He is currently a columnist for The Huffington Post , Open magazine and On Stage, the NCPA journal. He is the author of 6 books.
Anil Dharker started life as an engineer, graduating from London University and joining the academic staff of Glasgow University. He came back to India to become a Consultant Engineer.
His other roles have included heading the National Film Development Corporation where he enabled then young film-makers like Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Govind Nihalani, Saeed Mirza, Kundan Shash and Ketan Mehta to make their first films. He was also instrumental in NFDC co-producing Richard Attenborough`s multi Oscar winning film Gandhi.
Anil Dharker has been Creative Director of Zee TV. He was also involved in starting a new TV channel for the Dalal Street Journal group.
