Mr Toilet

Jack Sim is globally renowned as Mr Toilet. Jack grew up in a slum in Singapore and although he did not have a university degree, this did not stop him from starting a series of profitable businesses. He retired from his businesses at the age of forty to dedicate himself to humanitarian causes.

When he saw 2.6 billion people without proper sanitation, he founded the World Toilet Organisation in 2001 and transformed the taboo of toilets and sanitation into a media darling mobilising politicians, governments, celebrities and funds to give sanitation its own agenda on the global stage. Jack was named one of the Heroes of the Environment for 2008 by Time magazine.

Sunil Amrith

Renu & Anand Dhawan Professor of History, Yale University

Sunil Amrith is the Renu and Anand Dhawan Professor of History at Yale University, with a secondary appointment as Professor at the Yale School of the Environment.

He is the author of five books, most recently The Burning Earth: An Environmental History of the Last 500 Years.

Amrith is the recipient of multiple awards, including the 2016 Infosys Prize for Humanities, a 2017 MacArthur Fellowship, and the 2024 Fukuoka Academic Prize.

Anupreeta Das

South Asia Correspondent, The New York Times

Anupreeta Das is South Asia correspondent for The New York Times. She joined The Times in 2020 as finance editor.

Before that, she spent a decade at The Wall Street Journal in various roles, including deputy business editor.

Ed Smith

Cricket Analyst, Co-Founder & Director, Institute of Sports Humanities

Ed Smith is renowned thinker on sport, leadership and decision-making. He is Co-Founder and Director of the Institute of Sports Humanities. His new book, Making Decisions is out now, published by the William Collins imprint at HarperCollins.

Ed played cricket for Kent, Middlesex and England and was Chief Selector for England cricket from 2018 to 2021, a period of unprecedented success for England’s men’s teams.

He is a Contributing Writer for the New Statesman.
