This musical evening presents compositions from women composers and songwriters, from the past and present.

Featuring upcoming soprano Tiana Oberoi singing art songs by Clara Schumann, Alma Mahler, Fanny Mendelssohn accompanied by Khiyanur Vallikad, the program also showcases Musical Theatre repertoire by Kirsten Andersen-Lopez, Allee Willis, Sara Bareilles and songs by Contemporary Pop songwriters including Carole King, Lady Gaga and Faouzia. Also featured is a presentation of two exquisite a cappella choral compositions written by members of The Harmony Chorus, Anjali Pramod and Tiara Oberoi.

Sandra Oberoi

Director

Bangalore based music educator, singer, vocal coach, researcher, and motivational speaker, Sandra Oberoi founded Harmony-The Music School in Bangalore, India over 15 years ago, focusing on music excellence with purpose. She has successfully led the group on national and international concert tours and competitions.

A PhD Scholar at UCL Institute of Education in the UK with a Master’s in Music Education and Performance from Northwestern University, USA, Sandra has performed extensively, given masterclasses and presented across India, USA, UK, Africa, Canada, and Europe on topics that include exploring vocal versatility, vocal health and sustainability, culturally responsive pedagogy, music with a social agency, and building unique choral experiences for children and adolescents.

Tiana Oberoi

18-year-old Tiana Esther Oberoi from Bangalore, is the winner of the prestigious National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) National Student Auditions in San Diego, June ‘23 for Classical Singing. She earned a place at The Purcell School in September ‘21 where she completed her sixth form studies. As a music student at Harmony-The Music School for over a decade, she has performed across India and internationally. Some highlights include featured soloist at the Commonwealth Day celebrations at Westminster Abbey, Musikverin in Vienna, Deal Music Festival in Kent, at Royal Opera House, Mumbai, with The Harmony Chorus’ England, Scotland and Russia concert tours, and on Indian national television. Tiana won a scholarship to begin her vocal studies in September ‘23 at the Royal College of Music in London.

Tiara Oberoi

Singer, composer and music educator Tiara Oberoi has performed at several prestigious events and spaces including Carnegie Hall, NYC. Presently pursuing a BA in Musical Theatre at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Tiara studied music at Harmony – the music school for several years. Her choral composition ‘Lacrimosa’ won the ‘Young Adjudicators’ Prize’ at the Commonwealth Composition Challenge 2020, beating hundreds of entries from the Commonwealth countries and has been performed in the UK. The piece has since been performed in India and the U.K. Topper of the Musical Theatre Examinations by the London College of Music and Classical Singing by ABRSM, she remains a soloist at The Harmony Chorus, competed on the national level reality singing show ‘Rising Star’ and travelled on concert tours across Russia, England and Scotland.

Anjali Pramod

A keen musician, 17-year old Anjali has been learning singing, piano, music theory, composition at Harmony – the music school for since a young age. She has performed with The Harmony Chorus on Rising Star, in Russia, UK and around India, has been a prize winner several times over and high achiever in the ABRSM and LCM singing examinations over multiple grades in Classical Singing and Musical Theatre. Anjali begins her BA in Music and Sound Design for Film, Television and Interactive Media at Royal Holloway, London this September 2023 with a scholarship.

Ryan Joseph

17-year old singer and pianist, Ryan Joseph, is an upcoming artist in Bangalore’s music circles. Ryan has been a student at Harmony for several years, traveled with The Harmony Chorus across India, Russia and UK on concert tours and has participated on Indian national television. He secured the top position in South India for the Rock School London piano examinations and placed 1st in the International Region Singing Competition for Contemporary Category hosted by the esteemed National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). A member of The Harmony Chorus, Ryan reached India’s Top 8 on Rising Star. With them, he has also performed in Russia, England and Scotland.

Choir

The Harmony Chorus is a multi-genre group committed to purposeful music making since 2011. Members are students at Harmony-the music school and have used their music to champion many social initiatives including fundraise to support the education of children from disadvantaged backgrounds, generate awareness on teen mental health, and climate change.

Finishing as India’s top 8 on Rising Star-2, a national level reality singing show, they have since travelled to England and Scotland in 2019 and performed at the Indian High Commission’s Nehru Centre in London; at University of York, and St Giles Cathedral among other places. In 2018, they were invited to sing at Russia’s largest cathedral, The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, in collaboration with the Moscow Children’s Department of Education; at the prestigious Gnessin Russian Academy of Music; the Embassy of India in Moscow and Gatchina Philharmonic Hall.
