Djent Venting: Progressive Metal Culture

We are kicking off the first session of our Listening Room Sessions with an evening on progressive metal culture.

Have you been interested in metal head culture, but don’t know where to start? Or are you a fan of classic metal, and want to know what the kids are listening to these days? This Listening Session will focus on ‘Djent’, a sub-genre of contemporary, progressive metal that has risen in popularity and critical reception in the last 15 years. Some characteristics of this genre include groovy rhythms, distorted guitars and soaring vocals. Following a short talk on the genre itself and the artists that carry it forward, the session will be opened up to listeners who can then engage and participate in creating a Djent playlist.
