Digital Death
Quo Vadis Online Assets?
Speakers
Most of our daily life is increasingly digital — from socializing, to banking, to ordering pizza. Digital assets proliferate – email id, social media accounts, financial accounts for using mobile and internet services, commercial trade, entertainment, statutory government interactions,, health data, travel, etc. Have we thought of what happens to all our digital data and assets on our ‘death’?
In addition, people could create digital IP in the form of books, songs, lyrics, art, blogs, photos, training & education material, NFT and more. Real money could be held in e-wallets and crypto currency like Bitcoin. These are the ‘Digital Assets’ created and belonging to individuals who pass on. Is there any mechanism to bequeath it to the designated beneficiaries? Can it be done through a Will or Trust? Are there other options?
