Author and writer Janaki Lenin shares tales from her latest book¸Every Creature Has a Story, with host Pavan Srinath. Janaki and Pavan discuss nature writing, the challenges of connecting readers to the strange lives of various creatures, the perils of imbuing animals with human tendencies, and more.

Janaki Lenin writes about wildlife science and conservation practice in India. She is a full-time freelance journalist, runs a publishing company called Draco Books, and is the author of My Husband and Other Animals 2 – The Wildlife Adventure Continues, My Husband and Other Animals and A King Cobra’s Summer. Every Creature Has A Story is her most recent book.
Janaki Lenin facilitated the drafting of a management plan for non-human primates living with humans in 2005. With Professor R. Sukumar, she wrote the Action Plan for the Mitigation of Elephant-Human Conflict in India and contributed to the Guidelines for Human-Leopard Conflict Management. Between 2008 and 2012, Janaki was the Regional Chair for the IUCN/SSC/Crocodile Specialist Group (South Asia and Iran), Executive Secretary of the Gharial Conservation Alliance, and a member of IUCN’s Theme on the Social and Environmental Accountability of the Private Sector.
As a film editor, Janaki worked on numerous soaps and commercials. She set up Draco Films, a wildlife film production company, with Rom Whitaker. She gave up film making altogether to focus on writing.
