‘ಗುರುತು’ ಅನ್ನುವುದು ಕೆಲವರಿಗೆ ಹೆಮ್ಮೆಯಾದರೆ, ಕೆಲವರಿಗದು ಅಸಹ್ಯ, ಹಿಂಸೆ, ಜೀವನದ್ದುದ್ದಕ್ಕೂ ಹೊತ್ತು ತಿರುಗಬೇಕಾದ ಹೆಣಭಾರದ ಚಾಕರಿ. ಹಲವು ಬಾರಿ ‘ಉಳಿವಿಗಾಗಿ’ ಗುರುತುಗಳನ್ನು ಮುಚ್ಚಿಡುತ್ತಾ ಸಾಗುವುದೇ’ ಬದುಕು’ ಅನ್ನಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹರಿಯುತ್ತಾ ಹಗುರಾಗುವುದು ಸಾಗದ ದಾರಿಯಾಗಿ ಕಂಡು ದಣಿವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ದಣಿವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕೆ ಹಾರಾಡುವ ಬಯಕೆಯನ್ನು ಬಿಡುವಂತೆಯೂ ಇರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಕತ್ತಲ ದಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಿಂಚುಹುಳುಗಳಿಗಾಗಿ ಜೀವ ಆತುಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಆಗ ಕತ್ತಲೊಂದು ಸಂಭ್ರಮ ಬೆಳಕೊಂದು ಸಂಭ್ರಮ. ಹೀಗೆ ಗುರುತಿನ ಸುತ್ತ ಇರುವ ಹಲವು ಸಂಕೀರ್ಣ ವೀರೋಧಭಾಸಗಳನ್ನು ಎದುರುಗೊಳ್ಳುವ ಕಥನಗಳ ಗೊಂಚಲು’ ಬಾಬ್ ಮಾರ್ಲಿ ಫ್ರಮ್ ಕೋಡಿಹಳ್ಳಿ’. ಇಲ್ಲಿ‘ಬಾಬಾ ಸಾಹೇಬ್ ಅಂಬೇಡ್ಕರ್ ಅವರ ‘Waiting for a Visa’ ಒಂದು ರೂಪಕವಾಗಿ ಕಂಡು ಅವರು ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ಪ್ರವೇಶ ಕೇಳುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ಎಲ್ಲಿಗೆ? ಅನ್ನುವ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

A play on the concealment of caste and identity. The play is set in an urban context. Three characters trying to make a living in Bangalore are forced to leave their house because of their identities. An intimate conversation happens between those three as it is the last night that they are staying there, which reveals the depths of their inner selves to each other.
For some, ‘identity’ is a source of pride, while for others, it’s a source of disgust, violence, and a lifelong burden to carry. Many times, ‘survival’ seems to involve concealing one’s identities, flowing and lightening oneself, only to find that the path doesn’t lead anywhere, leading to exhaustion. Yet, exhaustion isn’t reason enough to give up the desire to soar. In the dark path, one must cling to life for the fireflies. Then, darkness becomes a celebration, light becomes a celebration.
Bob Marley from Kodihalli is a collection of narratives that confront the many complex paradoxes surrounding identity. Here, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s ‘Waiting for a Visa’ becomes a metaphor, raising the crucial question: where is he really seeking admission?
This play explores the intricacies of identity, the struggles of concealment for survival, and the persistent hope symbolized by fireflies in darkness. It uses Ambedkar’s work as a central theme to question the nature of acceptance and inclusion in society.

ರಂಗಭೂಮಿ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ನೀಡಿದ ಕೊಡುಗೆಗಾಗಿ 40 ವರ್ಷದ ಒಳಗಿನ ಯುವ ರಂಗಕರ್ಮಿಗಳಿಗೆ ನೀಡಲಾಗುವ ಶಂಕರ್ ನಾಗ್ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿಯನ್ನು 2023 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣ ಪಡೆದರು. ಅಲ್ಲದೆ, ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಗೆ ನೀಡಿದ ಕೊಡುಗೆಗಾಗಿ ಡೆಕ್ಕನ್ ಹೆರಾಲ್ಡ್ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಯು ಅವರನ್ನು 2024 ರ ಡಿಎಚ್ ಚೇಂಜ್ಮೇಕರ್ (ಬದಲಾವಣೆ ತರುವವರು) ಎಂದು ಗೌರವಿಸಿ ಗುರುತಿಸಿದೆ.
Lakshmana is an actor, director, playwright, and stage designer. In 2018, he obtained his degree from the Intercultural Theatre Institute in Singapore and in 2012 from the National School of Drama in India. He has performed in numerous national and international drama festivals. His work centres around grassroots movements, marginalised communities and cultural practices on the fringes of the mainstream.
Lakshmana was the 2023 recipient of the Shankar Nag Award, presented to young theatre practitioners under the age of 40 for their contribution to the field. Additionally, he was honoured as a DH Changemaker 2024 by Deccan Herald for his contributions to theatre.

handrashekara is a versatile talent in Kannada theatre and cinema. As an actor, he has participated in several international theatre experiments, travelling to countries like Japan, Germany, Lebanon, South Africa, and Switzerland. Before that, he worked as an actor and technician in theatre groups like Janamana Daata, Adima, and Neenasam.
Chandrashekara has played lead roles in films such as “Gavisiddha” and “Mahasampark”.
He has directed innovative plays like “Keri Haadu” and “Panchamapada”. Chandrashekara holds a postgraduate degree from the Department of Performing Arts at Bangalore University.
He is one of the founding members of Jangama Collective. Chandrashekara is continuously engaged in building theatre movements with marginalised communities and sexual minorities.
A collection of his stories is currently in preparation for publication.
Chandrashekara’s current performance in the play “Bob Marley from Kodihalli” has enhanced the power of the production.

ಚಿಕ್ಕಂದಿನಿಂದಲೇ ದಲಿತ ಚಳುವಳಿಯ ಒಡನಾಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳೆದಿರುವ ಶ್ವೇತಾ ಕನ್ನಡ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಯ ಹೊಸ ತಲೆಮಾರಿನ ಮಹತ್ವದ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರು’ನಟನೆ’ಯನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮ ವಿಶೇಷ ಅಧ್ಯಯನ ವಿಷಯವಾಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ದೆಹಲಿಯ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ನಾಟಕ ಶಾಲೆಯ ಪದವಿ ಪಡೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. NSD ಪದವಿಯ ನಂತರ ನೀನಾಸಂ ರಂಗಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲವು ವರ್ಷ ನಟನೆಯ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕಿಯಾಗಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಸಾಣೆಹಳ್ಳಿಯ ರಂಗಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಿನ್ಸಿಪಾಲ್ ಆಗಿ ಒಂದು ವರ್ಷ ಶಾಲೆ ನಡೆಸಿದ ಅನುಭವವಿದೆ.
ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಹಲವು ತಂಡಗಳಿಗೆ ‘ತಪ್ಪಿದ ಎಳೆ’, ಸೀಗಲ್, ಡಂಪ್, ಫೀದ್ರಾ, ವಾರ್ಷಿಕೋತ್ಸ,ವ ‘ಈ ಲಯ ಆ ಲಯ ‘ ‘ಆತಂಕವಾದಿಯ ಆಕಸ್ಮಿಕ ಸಾವು ‘ ನಾಟಕಗಳು ಸೇರಿ ಇನ್ನು ಹಲವು ಮಹತ್ವದ ನಾಟಕಗಳನ್ನು ನಿರ್ದೇಶಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ರಂಗ ವಿನ್ಯಾಸ ಮತ್ತು ವಸ್ತ್ರವಿನ್ಯಾಸದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಶೇಷ ಪರಿಣಿತಿ ಇರುವ ಶ್ವೇತಾ ಹತ್ತಾರು ನಾಟಕಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವಿನ್ಯಾಸಕಿಯಾಗಿ ದುಡಿದು ಆ ಪ್ರಯೋಗಳಿಗೆ ಭಿನ್ನ ಆಯಾಮಗಳನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.ಸದ್ಯದಲ್ಲೇ ಅವರ ಅನುವಾದಿತ ಕೃತಿಯೊಂದು ಪ್ರಕಟವಾಗಲಿದೆ.
Shwetha, who has grown up in association with the Dalit movement since childhood, is an important director of the new generation in Kannada theatre. She has obtained a degree from the National School of Drama in Delhi, specialising in ‘Acting’ as her subject of study. After her NSD degree, she worked for a few years as an acting teacher in the theatre education field at NINASAM. She has experience of running a school for one year as the principal at the Theatre School in Sanehalli.
She has directed several important plays for various troupes in Karnataka, including ‘Tappida Ele’, ‘Seagull’, ‘Dump’, ‘Phaedra’, ‘Varshikotsava’, ‘E Laya A Laya’, ‘Atankavadiya Akasmika Saavu’, and many more.
Shwetha, who has special expertise in stage design and costume design, has worked as a designer in dozens of plays, creating different dimensions for those experiments. One of her translated works is soon to be published.
ಕಳೆದ ಹನ್ನೆರಡು ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಕಲಾವಿದೆಯಾಗಿ, ಗಾಯಕಿಯಾಗಿ, ಮಕ್ಕಳನಾಟಕ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕಿಯಾಗಿ, ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿರುವ ಮರಿಯಮ್ಮ ಅವರ ಊರು ಆಂಧ್ರಪ್ರದೇಶದ ಚೂಡಿ. ರಾಯಲಸೀಮಾ ಮಣ್ಣಿನ ಬದುಕು ಇವರ ದನಿಗೆ ಮತ್ತು ನಟನೆಗೆ ಆ ನೆಲದ ಘಮಲನ್ನು ನೀಡಿದೆ. ಅಜ್ಜಿಯಿಂದ ಕಲಿತ ಸೋಬಾನೆ ಹಾಡು, ಗೌರಿಹಾಡು, ಮಾರಿ ಹಾಡುಗಳು ಇವರ ಸಂಗೀತದ ಕುರಿತ ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು, ಲೋಕದೃಷ್ಟಿಯನ್ನು ವಿಸ್ತರಿಸಿವೆ.
ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ಶಾಲಾ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಪರ್ಯಾಯ ಕಲಿಕೆಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ವಿದ್ಯಾಭ್ಯಾಸ ಪಡೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ವಿಸ್ತಾರ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹು ಶಿಸ್ತಿನ ಕಲಿಕೆಗಳಿಗೆ ತೆರೆದುಕೊಂಡ ಅನುಭವ ಇವರಿಗಿದೆ. ಮುಂದೆ ಸಾಣೇಹಳ್ಳಿ ರಂಗಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ವರ್ಷ ರಂಗಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಪಡೆದು ಮುಂದೆ ಶಿವಸಂಚಾರ, ರಾಯಚೂರು ಸಮುದಾಯ, ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ ರಂಗಾಯಣ, ಕಲಬುರ್ಗಿ ರಂಗಾಯಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಲಾವಿದೆಯಾಗಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದದ್ಯಂತ ನಾಟಕಗಳ ಭಿನ್ನ ಪಾತ್ರ ಮೂಲಕ ಗುರುತಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಒಂದು ವರ್ಷ ವಿಸ್ತಾರ ರಂಗ ಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ರಂಗಶಿಕ್ಷಕಿಯಾಗಿ ಪಾಠ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ಪಂಚಮಪದ ನಾಟಕದ ಇವರ ಹಾಡುಗಾರಿಕೆಗೆ ದನಿಗೆ ಇವರಿಗೊಂದು ಹೊಸ ಅಭಿಮಾನಿ ಬಳಗವೇ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಯಾಗಿದೆ.
Mariyamma, who has been working as an artist, singer, and children’s theatre director for the past twelve years, hails from Chudi in Andhra Pradesh. The life of Rayalaseema soil has given her voice and acting the fragrance of that land. The Sobane songs, Gauri songs, and Mari songs learned from her grandmother have expanded her knowledge and worldview of music.
She has received education through alternative learning methods, leaving traditional schooling. She has experience of opening up to multidisciplinary learning at Visthar Institute in Bengaluru. Later, she received theatre education for a year at Sanehalli Theatre School and has been recognised throughout Karnataka through different roles in plays as an artist in Shivasanchara, Raichur Community, Shivamogga Rangayana, and Kalaburagi Rangayana. She has taught for a year as a theatre teacher at Visthar Theatre School.
Her singing in the play ‘Panchama Pada’ has created a new fan base for her voice.

Bharath, one of the promising actors of the new generation in Kannada theatre, has grown up as part of the protest tradition of Raichur. From a young age, he learned lessons in art and struggle by following Dingri Narasappa, a singer of the Dalit movement, and performing street plays. He has special expertise in playing percussion instruments, including the tambourine.
After obtaining a degree from NINASAM Theatre Institute, he completed a Diploma in Journalism at Samvada-Baduku Community in Bengaluru and has worked as a video journalist in digital media.
In theatre, he has worked with various troupes in Karnataka, providing music direction and management for plays.
He participated in the Meta Theater Award, a national-level theatre festival held in Delhi, and received the “Best Supporting Actor” award.
Recently, he has been organising tambourine workshops in different parts of Karnataka, paving the way for a movement of constitutional literacy along with learning ‘tambourine playing’.

ನೀನಾಸಂನಲ್ಲಿ ಥಿಯೇಟರ್ ಇನ್ಸ್ಟಿಟ್ಯೂಟ್ ನಿಂದ ಪದವಿ ಪಡೆದು, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಸಂವಾದ-ಬುದಕು ಕಮ್ಯೂನಿಟಿ ಯಲ್ಲಿ ಡಿಪ್ಲೋಮಾ ಇನ್ ಜರ್ನಲಿಸಂ ಮಾಡಿ, ಡಿಜಿಟಲ್ ಮೀಡಿಯಾದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಡಿಯೋ ಜರ್ನಲಿಸ್ಟ್ ಆಗಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಾಟಕಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಂಗೀತ ನಿರ್ದೇಶನ ಮತ್ತು ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಹಲವು ತಂಡಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ದೆಹಲಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಮೆಟಾ ಥಿಯೇಟರ್ ಅವಾರ್ಡ್ ಅನ್ನುವ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಮಟ್ಟದ ಥಿಯೆಟರ್ ಫೆಸ್ಟಿವಲ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿ “ಅತ್ಯುತ್ತಮ ಪೋಷಕ ನಟ” ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ಪಡೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ಇತ್ತೀಚಿಗೆ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆ ಭಾಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, ತಮಟೆ ಶಿಬಿರವನ್ನು ಆಯೋಜಿಸಿ ‘ತಮಟೆ ವಾದನ’ ಕಲಿಕೆ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಸಂವಿಧಾನ ಸಾಕ್ಷರತೆಯ ಚಳುವಳಿ ರೂಪಿಸುವ ಹಾದಿ ಹಿಡಿದಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

VL Narasimhamurthy has been actively following the movement of the Dalit Sangharsh Samiti and worked on a study on the Dalit movement in Karnataka and writings of Ambedkar. His comparitive criticism and writings provides for crucial reflection for young artists and writers in Karnataka. He is a passionate writer on cinema, theatre and cultural politics. He currently is the English professor in National College, Basavanagudi.

‘ಗುರುತು’ ಅನ್ನುವುದು ಕೆಲವರಿಗೆ ಹೆಮ್ಮೆಯಾದರೆ, ಕೆಲವರಿಗದು ಅಸಹ್ಯ, ಹಿಂಸೆ, ಜೀವನದ್ದುದ್ದಕ್ಕೂ ಹೊತ್ತು ತಿರುಗಬೇಕಾದ ಹೆಣಭಾರದ ಚಾಕರಿ. ಹಲವು ಬಾರಿ ‘ಉಳಿವಿಗಾಗಿ’ ಗುರುತುಗಳನ್ನು ಮುಚ್ಚಿಡುತ್ತಾ ಸಾಗುವುದೇ’ ಬದುಕು’ ಅನ್ನಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹರಿಯುತ್ತಾ ಹಗುರಾಗುವುದು ಸಾಗದ ದಾರಿಯಾಗಿ ಕಂಡು ದಣಿವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ದಣಿವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕೆ ಹಾರಾಡುವ ಬಯಕೆಯನ್ನು ಬಿಡುವಂತೆಯೂ ಇರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಕತ್ತಲ ದಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಿಂಚುಹುಳುಗಳಿಗಾಗಿ ಜೀವ ಆತುಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಆಗ ಕತ್ತಲೊಂದು ಸಂಭ್ರಮ ಬೆಳಕೊಂದು ಸಂಭ್ರಮ. ಹೀಗೆ ಗುರುತಿನ ಸುತ್ತ ಇರುವ ಹಲವು ಸಂಕೀರ್ಣ ವೀರೋಧಭಾಸಗಳನ್ನು ಎದುರುಗೊಳ್ಳುವ ಕಥನಗಳ ಗೊಂಚಲು’ ಬಾಬ್ ಮಾರ್ಲಿ ಫ್ರಮ್ ಕೋಡಿಹಳ್ಳಿ’. ಇಲ್ಲಿ‘ಬಾಬಾ ಸಾಹೇಬ್ ಅಂಬೇಡ್ಕರ್ ಅವರ ‘Waiting for a Visa’ ಒಂದು ರೂಪಕವಾಗಿ ಕಂಡು ಅವರು ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ಪ್ರವೇಶ ಕೇಳುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ಎಲ್ಲಿಗೆ? ಅನ್ನುವ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

A play on the concealment of caste and identity. The play is set in an urban context. Three characters trying to make a living in Bangalore are forced to leave their house because of their identities. An intimate conversation happens between those three as it is the last night that they are staying there, which reveals the depths of their inner selves to each other.

ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣ ಒಬ್ಬ ನಟ, ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕ, ನಾಟಕಕಾರ ಮತ್ತು ರಂಗ ವಿನ್ಯಾಸಕ. 2018 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರು ಸಿಂಗಾಪುರದ ಇಂಟರ್ಕಲ್ಚರಲ್ ಥಿಯೇಟರ್ ಇನ್ಸ್ಟಿಟ್ಯೂಟ್ನಿಂದ ಮತ್ತು 2012 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತದ ನ್ಯಾಷನಲ್ ಸ್ಕೂಲ್ ಆಫ್ ಡ್ರಾಮಾದಿಂದ ಪದವಿ ಪಡೆದರು. ಅವರು ಅನೇಕ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಮತ್ತು ಅಂತರರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ನಾಟಕ ಮಹೋತ್ಸವಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನ ನೀಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅವರ ಕೆಲಸವು ಮೂಲ ಚಳುವಳಿಗಳು, ಅಂಚಿನ ಸಮುದಾಯಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಹಿನಿಯ ಅಂಚಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸಗಳ ಸುತ್ತ ಕೇಂದ್ರೀಕೃತವಾಗಿದೆ.
ರಂಗಭೂಮಿ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ನೀಡಿದ ಕೊಡುಗೆಗಾಗಿ 40 ವರ್ಷದ ಒಳಗಿನ ಯುವ ರಂಗಕರ್ಮಿಗಳಿಗೆ ನೀಡಲಾಗುವ ಶಂಕರ್ ನಾಗ್ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿಯನ್ನು 2023 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣ ಪಡೆದರು. ಅಲ್ಲದೆ, ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಗೆ ನೀಡಿದ ಕೊಡುಗೆಗಾಗಿ ಡೆಕ್ಕನ್ ಹೆರಾಲ್ಡ್ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಯು ಅವರನ್ನು 2024 ರ ಡಿಎಚ್ ಚೇಂಜ್ಮೇಕರ್ (ಬದಲಾವಣೆ ತರುವವರು) ಎಂದು ಗೌರವಿಸಿ ಗುರುತಿಸಿದೆ.
Lakshmana is an actor, director, playwright, and stage designer. In 2018, he obtained his degree from the Intercultural Theatre Institute in Singapore and in 2012 from the National School of Drama in India. He has performed in numerous national and international drama festivals. His work centres around grassroots movements, marginalised communities and cultural practices on the fringes of the mainstream.
Lakshmana was the 2023 recipient of the Shankar Nag Award, presented to young theatre practitioners under the age of 40 for their contribution to the field. Additionally, he was honoured as a DH Changemaker 2024 by Deccan Herald for his contributions to theatre.
ಚಂದ್ರಶೇಖರ ಕೆ | Chandrashekara K
handrashekara is a versatile talent in Kannada theatre and cinema. As an actor, he has participated in several international theatre experiments, travelling to countries like Japan, Germany, Lebanon, South Africa, and Switzerland. Before that, he worked as an actor and technician in theatre groups like Janamana Daata, Adima, and Neenasam.
Chandrashekara has played lead roles in films such as “Gavisiddha” and “Mahasampark”.
He has directed innovative plays like “Keri Haadu” and “Panchamapada”. Chandrashekara holds a postgraduate degree from the Department of Performing Arts at Bangalore University.
He is one of the founding members of Jangama Collective. Chandrashekara is continuously engaged in building theatre movements with marginalised communities and sexual minorities.
A collection of his stories is currently in preparation for publication.
Chandrashekara’s current performance in the play “Bob Marley from Kodihalli” has enhanced the power of the production.
ಶ್ವೇತ ರಾಣಿ ಹೆಚ್ ಕೆ | Shwetha Rani HK
Shwetha, who has grown up in association with the Dalit movement since childhood, is an important director of the new generation in Kannada theatre. She has obtained a degree from the National School of Drama in Delhi, specialising in ‘Acting’ as her subject of study. After her NSD degree, she worked for a few years as an acting teacher in the theatre education field at NINASAM. She has experience of running a school for one year as the principal at the Theatre School in Sanehalli.
She has directed several important plays for various troupes in Karnataka, including ‘Tappida Ele’, ‘Seagull’, ‘Dump’, ‘Phaedra’, ‘Varshikotsava’, ‘E Laya A Laya’, ‘Atankavadiya Akasmika Saavu’, and many more.
Shwetha, who has special expertise in stage design and costume design, has worked as a designer in dozens of plays, creating different dimensions for those experiments. One of her translated works is soon to be published.
ಮರಿಯಮ್ಮ | Mariyamma Chudi
ಭರತ ಡಿಂಗ್ರಿ | Bharath Dingri
Bharath, one of the promising actors of the new generation in Kannada theatre, has grown up as part of the protest tradition of Raichur. From a young age, he learned lessons in art and struggle by following Dingri Narasappa, a singer of the Dalit movement, and performing street plays. He has special expertise in playing percussion instruments, including the tambourine.
After obtaining a degree from NINASAM Theatre Institute, he completed a Diploma in Journalism at Samvada-Baduku Community in Bengaluru and has worked as a video journalist in digital media.
In theatre, he has worked with various troupes in Karnataka, providing music direction and management for plays.
He participated in the Meta Theater Award, a national-level theatre festival held in Delhi, and received the “Best Supporting Actor” award.
Recently, he has been organising tambourine workshops in different parts of Karnataka, paving the way for a movement of constitutional literacy along with learning ‘tambourine playing’.
