Organisation purpose / activities
SWMRT Is a public interest collective of SWM practitioners working for adoption of sustainable waste management practices by citizens and municipalities, for improving public health, safe food, clean air and water and inclusive livelihoods.
Impact assessment
SWMRT has since it’s inception, spearheaded community based campaigns that have translated into policy directions. The 2Bin1Bag method of segregation, has been adopted by the state and the wider community network.
Swachagraha campaign which started off as a pledge to compost, grow, cook has transformed into multi- layered campaign, with the BBMP running Compost Santhes to promote home composting at different wards, pre pandemic. The campaign’s natural spinoff was the establishment of India’s first compost learning center- Swachagraha Kalika Kendra and the Swachagraha Compost Connect, which connects communities that are composting with farmers
SWMRT has also been instrumental in initially piloting the Dry Waste Collection Centres, for retrieval of dry waste at the ward level, and promoting inclusion of wastepickers.
