Organisation purpose / activities

Aarunya Foundation educates first generation learners in primary and secondary schools to impart a strong foundation of English Speaking and Reading Skills, Basic Etiquette and Life Skills; thereby enabling them to study further and access more opportunities. We currently provide a 4 year Speaking English and Accelerated Reading program that is delivered using teaching volunteers. This can be delivered in classroom or online using creative multisensory content and audio, video and print teaching collateral made by Aarunya Foundation. Our Teaching volunteers are trained in the Aarunya delivery methodology to teach to optimal effect. Our Lesson Plans are interactive and effective in imparting language skills that are instant use and effective.

Impact assessment

In 3 years, Aarunya Foundation has reached over 1000 students using 82 teaching volunteers.  We approach English as an additional skill set rather than a subject and our teaching content and delivery methodology is geared to this.  We use before and after videos and periodic verbal and written assessments (modelled on ASER mandated testing format) to assess the learning progress of every student against benchmarks for that level.  Teachers are assessed by our training team and their peers to ensure that the program is delivered to optimal effect. During COVID, the Aarunya Remote Teaching program via telephone and online kept the learning going for our students.  Over the years our assessment results show that 70% of the children in a class are able to rank in the good or excellent range for English language skills at the end of an academic year.
