Simulating the creation of the Indian Constitution
A workshop for ages 13 to 18 years
Facilitator
This interactive, fun workshop will highlight the process of negotiation and Constitution making in India. Participants will take place in a simulation exercise that gives them the opportunity to explore the need for negotiation, compromise and working with each other through an environmental crisis. The objective of the simulation is for participants to work together and come up with creative, collaborative solutions to avert an environmental crisis. The game will require participants to work with groups whose identities and interests differ from their own. The workshop will also challenge participants to negotiate the meaning of justice and equity with each other.
The lessons from this simulation exercise will be used to discuss similar themes and processes that took place within the Constituent Assembly of India. A short discussion around Constitution making in India and the key principles enshrined within the Constitution will follow.
The workshop is aimed at children between the ages of 13 and 17. No previous reading in civics or experience is required. The primary language of interaction for this workshop will be English.
