Can you truly die in the digital age?

In this lecture, Professor Fontanini examines the ethical dimensions of death and mourning in the digital age, a field of study known as cyberthanatology. He explores the implications of digital immortality, where artificial intelligence, virtual reality and mind-uploading technologies simulate aspects of human identity beyond death, and at the same time raise questions around autonomy, privacy and the commodification of grief.

Thought-provoking, human and future-facing, this lecture invites us to reflect not only on how technology may reshape death, but also on what it means to preserve dignity, authenticity and our shared humanity in life.
