Science X Community: Reimagining Urban Lakes
Building a Shared Lake Rejuvenation Framework for Resilient Cities

Speakers
For decades, Bengaluru’s citizens, institutions, and experts have worked tirelessly to save the city’s lakes. This panel discussion brings together a diverse group of voices from government officials and citizen lake groups to researchers, practitioners, and environmental advocates to answer a simple question: how can we move toward a scientifically grounded, long-term strategy that ensures lakes remain healthy and functional for generations?
Too often, restoration efforts focus on a standard set of interventions, regardless of a lake’s ecological, hydrological, and social context, and subsequently, do not work. The comprehensive, five-step document Framework for Lake Rejuvenation, created by Friends of Lakes and WELL Labs, addresses the need to capture collective knowledge in a common, transparent and streamlined framework to guide future lake rejuvenation efforts across the city. This event aims to spark a conversation about how the city can move from isolated projects to a shared, science-based approach for restoring and sustaining its lakes.
