The Biology of Beauty
How Beauty Restores Wholeness to a Fragmented Civilization
Speakers
The body already knows. The question is: are we listening?
This conversation around Jinan K.B.’s new book Awakening Beauty begins in an unlikely place: a potter’s courtyard, where a young girl slices a perfect circle from clay without pause or calculation. Jinan spent years watching moments like this: children shaping meaning with their hands, artisans creating with a quiet certainty. He realised that this effortless clarity comes from a kind of intelligence we rarely acknowledge. In this event, he speaks with Prem Chandavarkar about how such intuitive, sensory knowing forms naturally, and how modern education steadily distances us from it through abstraction, rules, and ready-made answers.
Somewhere along the way, we traded perception for explanation and began trusting the mind more than the senses. Awakening Beauty reframes this shift as a deeper civilizational loss: one that leaves us informed but less alive to the world. This conversation makes a compelling argument to return to that original intelligence, where beauty is not decoration or skill, but a way of paying attention that makes life feel whole again.

Jinan K B
Jinan K. B is a researcher, educator, and a ‘seer’ exploring the biological intelligence underlying beauty, cognition, and values. For over three decades, he has worked across education, design, and indigenous knowing systems to reveal how life learns, creates, and knows naturally—without instruction or ideology. Living with non-literate artisans transformed his understanding of intelligence as a sensory, embodied participation with the world — a “knowing by being.”
Through initiatives such as Being in Beauty, Do-Nothing Parenting, and Natural Cognition Retreats, Jinan invites people to reclaim their innate aesthetic and cognitive wholeness. His work exposes how education and ego fracture this natural intelligence and explores beauty’s potential for civilizational healing.
He is currently developing a series of See Through Books— to help readers see through the book into the real world. Each title serves as an entry point into crucial themes like knowledge, childhood, parenting, illiteracy, and language, guiding readers back to the senses, the body, and the living world as the true ground of understanding and to use language consciously, carefully, and wisely.
