Come, participate in the BIC’s dramatised reading of Mahesh Dattani’s On a Muggy Night in Mumbai.
On a Muggy Night in Mumbai is the first contemporary Indian play to openly tackle gay themes of love, partnership, trust and betrayal. Kamlesh—young, gay and clinically depressed—invites his friends home ostensibly for an evening of camaraderie. However, with the arrival of his sister and her fiancé, a series of dramatic confrontations is set into motion, leading to startling revelations and unexpected catharsis.
This session will be structured as a cold and dramatic group reading carried by participants and facilitated by Samragni Dasgupta and the BIC team.

Samragni Dasgupta
Samragni Dasgupta (she/they) is a performance artist, writer, teacher, and researcher. Trained under Kirtana Kumar, Samragni’s theatre journey began early. In 2023, they were recognized among Bangalore’s top 13 upcoming theatre artists by The New Indian Express and awarded the International Cultural Projects Grant by the City of Munich. They co-founded Last Page Collective (2019), Ovrwrkd & Ovrkll (2023), and The Ennui Collective (2024), platforms supporting emerging artists. Since 2023, Samragni has been teaching theatre to children at Jagriti Theatre, Bangalore. They are currently working on a production of Thus Spake Shoorpanakha, So Said Shakuni by Poile Sengupta
