Hailing from Mumbai, MODCULT embodies the spirit of ‘Modern Music Culture’. Founded by bassist Avishek Dey, the band creates a genre-transcending soundscape blending modern jazz, soul, and contemporary styles.
With Avishek Dey on bass, Clement Rooney on piano, Shreya Bhattacharya on vocals, and Noah Cerejo on drums, the ensemble delivers soulful melodies, intricate harmonies, and electrifying improvisations. Their performances, marked by musical camaraderie and innovation, transport listeners on an emotive journey through original compositions and reimagined classics.

Shreya Bhattacharya
Shreya Bhattacharya is a vocalist hailing from Kolkata, whose approach to singing has earned her widespread recognition. Her musical journey began at the prestigious Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music, where she was awarded a full ride scholarship in western contemporary music. Driven by her passion for musical excellence, Shreya sought guidance from accomplished musicians around the world, honing her craft under the tutelage of Natalie John from New York and Veronica Nunes from Brazil. She further enriched her musical knowledge by learning from Carolina Calvache (NY), Karina Colis (Mexico), Parker McAllister (Brooklyn), and Steve Zerlin (Washington DC).
Shreya’s captivating voice has taken her across the globe, as she toured and performed at renowned festivals like Colombo Jazz Festival, Hyderabad Jazz Festival, Galle Literary Jazz Festival, Great India Story, and Madras Jazz Festival. Her eclectic singing style has earned her accolades and praise within the music industry. Collaborating with esteemed musicians, Shreya has performed alongside stalwarts like Louis Banks and Ranjit Barot, while also joining forces with artists like Darshan Doshi and Rhythm Shaw.
Beyond her performances, Shreya’s passion for teaching is evident in her role as a vocal instructor at the NMIMS School of Performing Arts in Mumbai. She has also coached prominent Bollywood artists, including Kanika Kapoor, Devendra (Coke Studio Singer), Rajan Batra (Yellow Diaries), Dino James, and Gurashish Singh (YouTube star).In addition to teaching, Shreya remains actively involved in various recording projects, lending her voice to jingles, voice production, and multiple Bollywood ventures. Alongside her own musical setup, MODCULT, Shreya is continuously exploring diverse sounds and is currently working on an upcoming album.
Clement Rooney
Clement Rooney is a classically trained pianist with a lifelong dedication to music. Originally from London, Clement’s musical journey led him to Mumbai in 2018, where he assumed the position of heading the piano department at the university level. His mastery extends across various styles of western music, including Jazz, Pop, Bolly-Jazz, RnB, Soul, and Latin. His versatility as a musician allows him to shine in a diverse range of musical environments, making him highly sought after in the Indian music scene.
With a wealth of experience, Clement regularly accompanies some of India’s top singers, enriching their performances with his exceptional piano skills. His ability to effortlessly adapt to different genres and create captivating musical landscapes sets him apart in the industry. Throughout his musical journey, Clement has been setting the tone for cocktail events, special occasions, and distinguished hotels in prominent cities like London, Amsterdam, and Mumbai. With over a decade of experience, his performances exude sophistication and charm, leaving a lasting impression on audiences.
Avishek Dey
Avishek Dey, the founder and frontman of Modcult, is a talented bassist, composer, and educator hailing from Calcutta. With an illustrious musical career spanning 15 years, Avishek has left an indelible mark on the Indian live circuit. Having earned a full scholarship from the prestigious Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music, Avishek’s prodigious dexterity on the bass is widely admired.
He has received training from internationally acclaimed musicians such as Garry Willis, Christian Galvez, Ric Fierabracci, Mathew Garrison, Parker McAllister, and Steve Zerlin. Avishek interprets a diverse range of genres, including Jazz, RnB, Soul, Gospel, Funk, Jazz Fusion, Garage, Broken-beat, Nu-Funk, Be-Bop, and Contemporary Jazz.
Collaborating with renowned international artists, such as Yuchiro Tokuda, Erick Truffaz, Anthony Cammarota, Aron Nyiro, Jim Porto, Ricardo Vogt, and others, Avishek’s reach extends beyond borders, making waves on the global music stage. As an educator, Avishek is committed to nurturing young talents and establishing a strong foundation in the Indian music community. He imparts his expertise as a professor at the NMIMS School of Performing Arts in Mumbai and mentors a vast number of aspiring bass players.
Beyond his work with Modcult, Avishek leads The Bombay Kollective, a Bollywood Jazz project known for its unique reharms and rearrangements of Bollywood classics in jazz format, captivating audiences at exclusive weddings and corporate events. He has performed alongside jazz stalwarts from the Indian music scene, including Sir Louis Banks, Gino Banks, and Sir Ranjit Barot. He also achieved a historic debut at the iconic “COACHELLA” festival in LA, sharing the stage with Punjabi star Diljit Dosanjh.
