Inherent tensions between values and national priorities
Speakers
Discussion of the book will cover aspects of the tension between values and national priorities, with specific reference to the leading countries of today. This includes the effect of the Enlightenment, colonialism, modernity and post-modernity in determining contemporary value systems which are often uncomfortable in their interface with each other. The discussion will be on the impulses which drive the foreign policies of the world’s most important countries, such as the legacies of religion, civilization, culture and history.

Krishnan Srinivasan is a former foreign secretary and deputy secretary-general of the Commonwealth. He has written several books on international affairs.
Jairam Ramesh
Jairam Ramesh is a member of parliament and author of several works of history and biography.

Nitin Pai is founder-director of the Takshashila Institution, a research and policy think-tank in Bangalore.
