An Evening of Original Poetry and Bass

A temporally themed evening of original poetries strung through with bass and self-produced melodies. Nupur Azadi brings some of her new work, supported by Mario Stevens. Charting through the murmur of the galaxy in secret songs and stories, the evening molds each audience into an intrepid traveler. Each piece turns into an imagined story; each story — someone’s memory. Pulling on the strings of gossip from the celestial, we journey on to listen from a little closer.

Nupur Azadi
Nupur Azadi (she/her) is an international stage artist who creates works of words. She is a self-taught, multi-disciplinary artist who emerged from the close-knit slam poetry spaces of Singapore in 2015. Her work has been hailed as ‘urgent’ and ‘engaging’ by a global audience. In 2022 she conceptualized, wrote, produced, directed, and performed in a one-woman theatrical poetry show called ‘Live. Love. Loaf. An investigation into who gets to loiter’. Over 2022 and 2023 she performed the same across various venues in Bangalore and NALSAR, Hyderabad before taking it to Singapore and Cambodia. As a student of Voicework, and of literary pedagogies, and a continued participant in movement arts learnings, she labors over foraging a physicality to the previously textual genre of spoken word. She intertwines spoken word, theatre, music, and movement into an art form she christened Theatrical Poetry.
Mario Naveen Stevens
Mario Naveen Stevens, a bass player hailing from the serene streets of Bangalore, lets his love for groove flow through his strings. His musical journey, once rooted in rock and pop, has evolved toward the vibrant pulse of funk jazz and jazz rock. With every slap, pop, and pluck of his bass, Mario’s joyful energy finds its way into the music, turning each note into a reflection of his fun-loving spirit and dynamic artistry.
