Mad and Divine
The Voice of Janabai and Lalded
Part of the ‘All for Dance’ Series
Artiste
An insight into the life and teachings of Janabai, 13th Century and Lalded, 14th Century. Both were women mystic poets who went through tremendous hardships before they were recognised for their spiritual awakenings. They crossed barriers of social norms to fearlessly express their love for the Supreme.
They were different in approach but MAD and DIVINE. Janabai was a Vaishnavait while Lalded was a Shaivaite. Janabai believed in the form while Lalded believed in the formless. Janabai took the path of devotion while Lalded took the path of tantra.
Mad and Divine was first commissioned by Dr. Anita Ratnam for the Natya Darshan at Kartik Fine Arts Chennai, in 2011.
