The Park Whisperers is a film that provides a glimpse of a silent reading community in Bangalore, called Cubbon Reads. Hosted at a designated location at Cubbon Park every Saturday morning, it is a space that gathers hundreds of readers every time, singletons to dates to families huddled together, unhindered by blaring horns or the rigidity of benches inside libraries or cafe chairs.
The film captures the essence of why readers from various backgrounds like to come together in this space to simply read in each other’s company. Besides these readers, there are also sub-groups of painters, writers, knitters, and origamists who enjoy the warmth of finding more of their tribe and engaging in their creative activities together. The film depicts how even a gathering of hundreds of people can be a silent affair, as each of them enjoy what they are personally doing along with the inspiration that they gather by looking at others with similar intent. From afar it might merely appear as a litter of picnickers gathered in the same patch of park on various scattered mats, only someone who is a part of the community can truly feel the symbiosis that exists amongst the attendees.
