In Rabindranath Tagore’s last speech before death, Crisis of Civilisation, he summarised his take on what was the real crisis the world was facing: Nationalism and its various nefarious avatars. Tracing the path of Tagore’s political life, this is a play involving acting, narration and his own musical work. A bio-pic of a kind. Written and directed by Ranjon Ghoshal.

Ranjon Ghoshal is an eminent theatre personality of Bangalore and has been one of the proponents of English theatre in the city for nearly 40 years. He has been involved in over 20 plays, spanning more than 300 shows. He has directed works by Badal Sircar, Manoj Mitra, Bertolt Brecht, Arun Mukhopadhyay, Girish Karnad and Samuel Beckett, to name just a few. Apart from direction, he along with his wife Sangeeta and close friend Utkal Mohanty, have translated various Bengali plays into English.

He is an active member of the Bangalore theatre scene, directing and performing plays in English with Forum Three, a theatre collective operating out of Bangalore for the last 40 years, pushing the city’s theatre scape towards new horizons in production values, content and inclusive community spirit.He is one of the founders of  India’s first indigenous rock band in 1975 – Mohiner Ghoraguli.

Ranjon’s home in Bangalore, The Yellow Submarine, is a focal point for many intellectuals and artists in the city.Ranjon has been writing poetry and fictionis regularly published in both Bengali and English. He scripts for films and stage plays. He runs a theatre school: ‘Mind It!’ for nurturing and grooming aspiring actors and singers in Bangalore.
