Anubhav, the 2nd Edition, is all about the myriad emotions a dancer experiences, which evolves through many phases, through the years of her engagement with the art and the creative journey that is part of this process.
Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar awardees Shashwati and Lakshmi will be sharing their Anubhav through their respective genre, Odissi and Bharatanatyam. There will be explorations of solo dances, as well as the duet aspects of presentation – a coming together of these two classical Indian Dance forms of Bharatanatyam and Odissi, from the Eastern Coast of India, Both dance forms being deeply rooted in tradition and the vernacular. Anubhav will showcase the solo choreographies of Shashwati and Lakshmi as well as their gurus.
The duet presentations are created and choreographed by Smt. Sharmila Biswas.

Shashwati Garai Ghosh
Shashwati Garai Ghosh is a leading odishi dancer of this generation who has made a niche in her field. Coming from a family of artists has made her believe that art reflects life, and now she experiences life through the art of dance. She is the senior most disciple of internationally acclaimed dancer and choreographer Sharmila Biswas, her association with her guru since 1999 has made her grow as a dancer she wanted to be in every aspect.
Shashwati is the first recipient of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Yuva Pratibha Samman, along with other honours, she received the 2016 Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar for Odissi. Angashuddhi – Home for Odishi – is her initiative to nurture, and pass on the experience of learning Odishi dance to the next generation, to explore more vistas and encourage and imbibe the roots of odishi to the next generation.
Lakshmi Parthasarathy Athreya
Central Sangeet Natak Akademy Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar Awardee (2013) Lakshmi Parthasarathy Athreya is a noted Bharatanatyam soloist of her generation. She is a senior disciple of the Bharatanatyam legend Smt Chitra Visweswaran in Chennai for over 35 years. In addition to dance, she is also trained in nattuvangam, dance theory and stagecraft at Smt. Chitra’s Chidambaram Academy of Performing Arts.
An ‘A’ graded artiste with the Doordarshan, Lakshmi’s work is well researched and innovative in approach, she allows herself and her dance to be easily influenced by everyday life. Her work is known for its sensitive and truthful portrayal of life. She pursues a career in performing, choreographing and teaching Bharatanatyam to serious minded youngsters at her Centre for Dance – Pravaaha in Chennai.
