ANICCA, is a Pali word which means impermanence. This film is about the journey of a dancer who came out of personal struggle with organ failure and lived to tell the tale, thanks to an unknown organ donor. Mr. Lourd Vijay, a well-known salsa dancer from India, took the arduous journey of traveling across India on road to spread awareness about organ donation. He has started his own foundation which hopes to get one million people pledge for organ donation. His journey across India was the first important step towards that. This film captures his travel for 37 days, the people he met, his personal journey leading up to this travel and the beautiful landscapes.
The screening will be followed by a conversation between Dr. Pallavi Patri, Dr. Girish N S and Lourd Vijay.
Speakers
Pallavi Patri
Dr. Pallavi Patri completed medical college and training in Internal Medicine and Nephrology/Hypertension/Kidney Transplantation in the US. Upon completion of her training in this field at Weill Cornell Medical College, she stayed on as teaching faculty involved with the training of medical students and fellows in Nephrology and worked as a Nephrology consultant at New York Presbyterian Hospital. At this busy center, she gained experience managing complex Kidney Transplant cases and cared for home Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis patients. She also worked at Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Center which provided the unique experience of managing diverse kidney conditions in Cancer patients.
She has published articles in International Journals in the field of Transplant and Kidney disease and has published books chapters in two Nephrology textbooks. Currently, at Manipal Hospital Sarjapur, she established and leads the Nephrology Department which includes outpatient Hemodialysis and Peritoneal dialysis, inpatient and ICU dialysis, and general Nephrology outpatient clinic. Along with the Urologist and Transplant surgeon she heads the Kidney Transplant Program.
Girish N S
Girish N S is currently working as a Consultant Nephrologist and Transplant Physician at Manipal Hospitals, Hebbal, Bangalore. He completed his Nephrology training from Cambridge and worked as a Consultant at The Royal London Hospital before relocating to India in 2013. His area of interest is Haemodialysis and Kidney Transplantation. He has been a principal investigator in number of randomized controlled trials, studies and has 8 publications in peer reviewed journals. He has presented in number of national and international conferences and has authored chapters in international books.
Lourd Vijay
Lourd Vijay is a Guinness World Record holder and has worked with Super stars like Jackie Chan, Nandita Das, Phurab Kohli, Mallika Sherawat, Sharmila Mandre, Raghu Mukherjee, Lekha Washington, Akshara Hasan, Varalakshmi Sharathkumar along with film directors like Stanley Tong, Raja Menon, Jacob, Arvind Adiga, Indrajit Lankesh and Sandeep Mohan. He has worked on dance reality shows like – Dance india Dance, Lux perfect bride and Guinness World Record – Abh India Thodega. He is the principal promoter of Latin culture, music and dance in the Asian region.
Lourd has travelled to over 30 countries to train, perform and teach. He brings in a high level of professionalism setting, many benchmarks in the entertainment industry. He has trained over 1.5 lakh students and has worked on many musicals, feature films, ad films along with working with corporates and schools in India and abroad. His company, LVDS has had a presence in Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai.
Lourd has had extensive training in Salsa (LA and Cuban Style), Bachata, Cha-cha, Zouk, Afro Cuban Funk, Freestyle Jive, Acro-Duo, Lifts and tricks.
