The power of seers and saints lies in their teachings, as well as their life journeys. Every seer/saint has so have experienced a lot, internalized and channeled it in order to connect with the divine. Sant Nāmdev (1270-1350AD) was one such soul, whose journey is unmatched. His experiences, his connections with Panduranga Vittala have given us so much to hold on to. His abhangs are filled with extraordinary wisdom, and serve as a way to understand his life story.
With this background in mind, Madrasana in collaboration with BIC presents Yātra, a musical-narrative journey, by Sivasri Skandaprasad and Vinay Varanasi.
This yātra will explore Sant Nāmdev’s unique life experiences, and their reflections in his musical compositions – abhangs. This exploration aims to go beyond a linear retelling of his story – it focuses on a celebration of Nāmdev’s life and teachings, and the music and narrative have been designed to come together seamlessly for that.
To give a glimpse into the journey of Nāmdev, and to celebrate the joy of Nāmasankeerthana, Sivasri and Vinay will be conducting a Wari (a musical walk) in Malleswaram on 10th July. This walk will take people through the temples of Malleshwaram, all the while singing and sharing some stories as a prelude to Yātra on 22nd July. Anyone can join the walk starting at 8 AM from Dakshina Mukha Nandishwara temple in Malleswaram and finishing at Venugopalaswamy temple. Feel free to bring anyone for this walk and if you are a musician, come along and sing together. Click here to join the Whatsapp group that will have the details about the walk on July 10.
Both the events are free for all.
