Organisation purpose / activities

‘Mitti Café’ is a chain of cafes that provides experiential training and employment to adults with physical ,intellectual and psychiatric disability. The organisation’s outreach initiative also helps create awareness about inclusion and disability rights. Mitti Cafés across India are managed by hundreds of adults with disability who have have in the last few years served over 6 million meals and beverages-thereby creating awareness about inclusion with every meal served.Their warriors with disability in this pandemic have cooked and served over 2 million meals to the poor and vulnerable communities and homeless groups,thereby proving the magic of abilities as a result of economic independence and dignity.

In the short span Mitti has been featured in the Forbes list of 30 under 30 ,has won awards like the United Nations Intercultural Innovation Award,COVID Warrior Award: Deutsche Bank, is a Commonwealth Youth Awardee and has won awards like the NCPEDEP Mindtree Hellen Keller Award ,Times of India-She Unlimited Award ,Rotary Exemplar award ,Microsoft Nipman Award, Tiecon Young female Entrepreneur of the Year Award,amongst others.

Impact assessment

– SDG 8: Decent work & Economic Growth: We have 17 MITTI Cafes run by persons with physical, intellectual and psychiatric disabilities in corporate, educational and public spaces that offer sustainable livelihood and skill development programs to over 1000 persons with disabilities.

– SDG 1: No Poverty: 89% of our beneficiaries, who are persons with disabilities, come from low-income backgrounds. 92% have not got formal education.

– SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities: Engaged more than 1000 persons with disabilities in our livelihood and skill development programs resulting in economic empowerment.

– SDG 2:Zero Hunger: MITTI Karuna (Compassion) Meals program initiated by empowered persons with disabilities. We have so far served over 2 million meals cooked and served to the poor and vulnerable since the start of the COVID 19 pandemic when millions were without access to food or water.

– SDG 5: Gender Equality: 67% of our managers are women with disabilities.

SDG 17: Partnerships: 6 million+ meals and beverages served to a community of people who now believe in disability inclusion.
