Hindustani Classical Music – “Rasake Bhare Tore Nain”
Vid Radhika Joshi Ray, Dr Sagar Bharathraj, Vid Ashwin Walawalkar, Dr Veena Joshi
Padmavibhushan Smt Girija Deviji, known as the ‘Queen of Thumri’ reigned the world of semi-classical music in India for decades. Born in Benaras and trained in the Purab ang of Thumri, Appaji (as she was fondly known) played a key role in elevating the stature of the Thumri. She enthralled the audiences with her exceptional ability to gently blend the principles of Raga sangeet with the expressions of Lok sangeet. This performance was a tribute to Smt Girija Devi ji by Dr Radhika Joshi Ray, a young upcoming vocalist who has had the fortune of studying under the Girija Deviji for several years. The concert featured some of her signature compositions and a few anecdotes about her musical journey.
