Typeface & Graphic Designer

Date & Time

Sunday Sun, 25 Jun 2023

Location

M.G. Road
India

Join typeface and graphic designer, Pooja Saxena, for a one-of-a-kind stroll down Bangalore’s M. G. Road, and see the world through her typographic eyes. Type walks with Pooja are a unique opportunity to look at the city with a fresh perspective, learn about the languages and scripts in our public spaces, and appreciate the work of local sign-makers.

Using the signs and landmarks of M.G. Road as provocation, she will talk about the myriad letterforms on display on shop and building fronts — from fast disappearing neon signs to ubiquitous sans serifs and multiscript branding — and discuss their historical and cultural legacies. Together with that, Pooja will remind us of snapshots of printing history and initiatives driven by colonial missionaries whose presence is still felt at M.G. Road.

Through this walk, you’ll not only find new ways to see this one corner of Bangalore, but develop a novel, typographic viewpoint to experience any neighbourhood you find yourself in.
