Combining the essence of classical music with a fusion / contemporary expression, The Manasi Prasad Ensemble brings together established musicians in a high-energy performance. The set includes reinterpretations from Karnatic, Hindustani, Folk repertoire as well as freshly composed pieces with a dash of Konnakkol (vocal percussion) and jazz influences. The compositions are interspersed with a context-setting conversation that brings home the relevance of each composition and the interconnectedness of music.

Manasi Prasad

Vocals

Manasi Prasad is a combination of an accomplished singer, arts management professional, passionate educator and eloquent orator.

She is a noted Karnatic vocalist from Bangalore. Manasi has studied music with renowned gurus such as RK Padmanabha in Bangalore and Sriram Parasuram in Chennai. She started performing concerts at the age of 14 and since then has performed widely across India and in 6 continents around the world. She is a recipient of several awards in music, including the prestigious Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar from the Sangeet Natak Akademi (Government of India) and the Rotary- Brigade Young Achievers Award. Manasi has performed on radio and TV several times, and has over 10 music albums to her credit.

While being steeped in the classical music tradition of India, Manasi believes in the interconnectedness of music. Besides traditional Karnatic concerts, Manasi has also collaborated with musicians from other genres including Hindustani classical, western classical and jazz, and has gained acclaim for devotional, fusion and contemporary classical presentations.

Manasi is the Museum Director of the Indian Music Experience Museum (IME) which is India’s first interactive music museum. Manasi is an engineering graduate, and holds an MBA from IIM Bangalore. Manasi is a Fellow of TED, the Melton Foundation, and the Aspen Global Leadership Network. She was recognized as one of the 35 ‘Indians of Tomorrow’ by the India Today publications.

Karthik Mani

Drums

Karthik Mani is a World Percussionist and Drummer. He hails from a family of musicians – his father, TAS Mani was a renowned percussionist and founder of “The Karnataka College of Percussion”, and his mother RA Ramamani is a reputed Carnatic vocalist who has performed Worldwide and has pioneered Indo-Jazz fusion.

He has performed in various festivals in India, China, Spain, Germany, USA, Turkey, Bangkok, Canada, Ireland, Sweden, Switzerland, Indonesia and Australia. He has also performed shows all over India with various renowned Carnatic, Hindustani and World Musicians including Shankar Mahadevan, Dr L Subramaniam, Carnatic Maestro Mandolin U Sreenivas, Dr M Balamuralikrishna, Dr S P Balasubramanyam, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Ustad Hariharan, Carnatic flute Maestro N Ramani, Violinist Mysore Manjunath, Shashank Subrahmanyam, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Aruna Sairam, Praveen Godkhindi and others.

Karthik has been a part of bands like Swiss Indian Orchestra, Raghu Dixit Project, Vasu Dixit Collective, Swarathma, Bangalore Dreams, Subramania to name a few and has bands of his own – “The Karthik Mani Group”, “Taalization”, “The Naada Project” and others.

Sharan Rao

Keys

Sharan Rao is a professional keyboard player. As a musician, performer, arranger and producer, Sharan loves experimenting with different genres of music. He is experienced in experimenting in Indo-Western fusion music.

Trained in various music genres, Sharan is well versed in playing the grand piano, keyboards, synthesisers, melodica (air piano) and many others. He produces music, renders background scores, arranging and programming songs for many commercial movies, reality shows, radio jingles, advertisements, short films and album recordings. He is a qualified sound engineer from Audio life – Bharathiar University. He is also a practising LIVE sound engineer. He has performed and worked with many renowned bands and artists.

Shivling Rajapur

Flute

Shivalingappa Rajapur is a flautist in the Hindustani music arena. He studied under the tutelage of flute mastero Pt. Ronu Majumdhar Mumbai. He completed his vidwath exam in music with first grade and has given many solo concerts at various places in Karnataka and India.

Shivalingappa is the recipient of Mancha Pradarshana scholarship in the year 2005 – 2006, and has won consecutive awards in the national youth music competition from 2005 to 2007 held in Hyderabad, Gandhinagar & Lucknow. He has extensively toured New Zealand, Malaysia and other countries as a solo performer and accompanying artist.

Shivalingappa Rajapur is a sought-after accompanying artist for background music and has lent his musical prowess to many scores for movies, television serials and dance.

Muthu Kumar

Tabla and Percussion

Muthu Kumar has made a niche for himself as a tabla player / percussionist with over 30 years in the music industry. Having studied under tabla legends Ustad Allarakha and Ustad Zakir hussain, Muthu has traveled around the globe and performed at many prestigious stages and festivals.

He has accompanied the likes of Anup Jalota, Alice Coltrane, Maynard Ferguson, John Barnes, Bill Laswell, Dana Gillespie, Bombay Jayashree, Grammy winner Ricky Kej, and Lucky Ali to name a few. He is the founder of ‘Rhythm Shala’ – a school for Indian percussions. Muthu has also forayed into the field of Online Tabla learning with more than 100 students around the globe. Muthu has collaborated with musicians across the world and genres.
