Organisation purpose / activities

Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM) is a development Organization, engaged in building a new civil society in India through its grassroots to policy level action in Health, Education and Community Development sectors since 1984.

The development initiatives of Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement are designed to build Human and Social Capital which will contribute towards building a resurgent India with the collective efforts of the deserving community. SVYM has been actively striving to improve the quality of life of the tribal, rural and urban poor communities for the last 38 years by addressing key development issues impacting their economic well-being.

Impact assessment

Healthcare initiatives catering 60,000+ tribal and rural marginalized through its Preventive, Curative, rehabilitative services.

Reproductive & Child Health services is reaching 21,000 indigenous tribal families achieving 96.4% institutional deliveries.

Palliative Care Program – Continued care for the chronically ill – life limiting illnesses, catered to 1800+across Mysuru, Hassan & Dharwad.

Care for the specially abled provided for 37,000 PWDs across 1973 Villages in Karnataka.

500+ indigenous Tribal children have been provided free residential education with 47% of them being girls.

50,000 rural students & 2000+ teachers are engaged in experiential education methodologies to improve the quality of education.

Annually 600+ women are provided vocational training & support them to start group entrepreneurship.

Extent of focus in Bengaluru

SVYM is been working in following projects in Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural districts

– Water Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) Program – Working in 15 villages, 52 schools and Anganawadis of Anekal & Nelamangala Taluks of Bengaluru District.

– School Education Program (SEP) – working with 35 government schools to render technology enabled education & STEM based education.

– Viveka Scholar Program – education initiatives of SVYM caters to the needs of academically meritorious students coming from socio-economically challenged backgrounds at their pre-university level & supports them to pursue higher education in science. Till date, 474 deserving students have been supported through Viveka Scholar Program.

– Mobile Health Unit – provides primary health care services to low income settlements in urban areas. Two Mobile Health Units in Bengaluru South covers 16 low income settlements with a population of 92,763.

– Prevention of Parent to Child Transmission of HIV/AIDS Program (PPTCT) – The program focuses on strengthening partnership of Government and private health care sectors to render services for mother and baby and shared responsibility in reaching HIV positive pregnant women.

– Women empowerment & Livelihood Support for Farmers – Promotes rural social business units by providing training & food droduction units by promoting locally grown agri products. Support sustainable agricultural practices among the farmers in rural areas.
